mardi gras skin
And yet your criticisms of the Right for photos like the one I linked above, and your criticism of Kilmer's #%@* licker comment earlier are where? You weren't asking me but: Of course the picture above was ignorant and offensive. Why would techboy comment on that? There have been innumerable ignorant demonstrator photos linked on these threads. Kilmer's comment is a personal attack on an individual. He could have used any number of offensive terms to express his indignation. All of them would have been uncalled for, but none of them would be any more specific to the person he was calling out than another term he could have used. When a group of people pick one specific derogatory term and apply it consistently to another group of people the attack moves from a simple hostile exchange into bigotry. It is the reason my grandmother used the word "******" when she was talking about black people. She was using what she knew to be an offensive term because she wanted to make sure we all knew that black people were beneath her. Of course, the rest of us cringed at her ignorance. I feel the same way when I see a person refer to Tea Party members as "teabaggers". They think they've said something clever, invoking a sexual expression to demean a group of people. Its tragically ironic when someone says something like "I heard that those teabaggers are saying things like 'go back to Africa ******s!'" Yeah, sounds like pot and kettle are both bigotted. techboy
And yet your criticisms of the Right for photos like the one I linked above, and your criticism of Kilmer's #%@* licker comment earlier are where? I can't help but notice that you neither answered my question nor addressed the substance of the criticism I was echoing, i.e. that the term is intentionally rude and mean-spirited. I mean, I guess you could just say "Yeah? So what? I'm intentionally rude and meanspirted!" The consistency of my criticisms (or the lack thereof) doesn't seem to have much bearing on my point (genetic fallacy, anyone?), but for the record, I have a pretty consistent track record here of calling for civility and criticizing/eschewing rudeness. I don't respond to every post that violates what I see as appropriate politeness because I'm not the board nanny, and frankly there aren't enough hours in the day even if I chose to take it upon myself, but in this case, I did. Sorry for the late reply, as I didn't see this until now (as an aside, one of the reasons you may not have seen me talk about some of the other things you reference is that I don't generally participate in political threads. I happened to stumble into this one once, and only found it again because I occasionally search my own name here to see if I missed a comment directed at me, such as in this case). PCS
Again the Mods continue to allow liberal dick lickers to use deragatory terms to smear their opposition. Why is that? Oh quit your whining. After these years on ES,no way you're going convince me that you're that sensitive. And as a conservative you've heard far worse and will likely hear far worse than this. If not, then I suggest you toughen up cupcake, because considering the political climate of this country right now,it's going to get much nastier. Frankly,I think you're just trying to make a point,(seen this by you many times over the years),and it has been noted. So knock if off already. That said, the use of the term has been discussed by staff. It's a slippery slope to be sure. It's a derogatory term,of that there is no doubt, but one that has somehow made its way in to the national vocabulary fairly quick,(which probably isn't a great thing to be honest). As such,it's taken on a bit of a different meaning, imho, than it's original meaning,(the bad one of course). It's still a derogatory, mean spirited commen, but one,(and again this is my opinion),not on the same level as $%$# licker. Though I do understand the feeling behind the use of the word is probably the same.
polywog999
Technically, a moron is a person with an IQ that is two standard deviations below the mean. Not sure what it means that you don't know that :pfft: It used to be an IQ of 70 or below. USED to be! Now, it just means that you're stupid. Not you, anybody...
ZoEd
News flash: There is no "coordinating this message". It's not there. (Or at least, the poster hasn't quoted anything that says so.) The members of Tailgate said exactly the same thing. Look! Tailgate is a secret cabal of the powerful and influential, who meet in secret to control the very thoughts of America and the World! Want to know something even more stunning? Go over to Stadium. Over there, you'll find a hundred people, every one of which is an expert in how to win in the NFL. And this secret band of behind the scenes manipulators are even now coordinating what should be done with Albert Haynesworth. Planning our 53-man roster. I bet you that, a year from now, if you go back and look at the posts in Stadium, you'll find somebody who suggested something that's close to something that the Redskins actually did. Last time I checked the members of the Tailgate aren't in the BUSINESS of reporting news accurately. Last time I checked ES isn't in bed with hundreds of other Pro Sport websites pushing an agenda. There is a difference you know, then again if you admitted that the ivory tower you live in would get some soot on it.
Larry
Last time I checked the members of the Tailgate aren't in the BUSINESS of reporting news accurately. Last time I checked, the Tailgate includes members of the Liberal Media, people with Supreme Court access, and several highly-placed members of "the intelligence community". (And a bunch of people with inflated opinions of their own importance.) Last time I checked ES isn't in bed with hundreds of other Pro Sport websites pushing an agenda. Last time I checked, there's nothing supporting the much-made claim that this site is, either. But I'm certain that it's there, because lots of people pushing a political agenda have said so. (Without any support at all.)

Yeah, its really not the same thing at all. Poor comparison.
