DCMONEY
My 1st thread in a long time so forgive me if this topic has been touched. I haven't seen it in search. I was just trying to get a feel on what Extremeskins fans feel they want on defense. Apparently Haslett is in the mode that he wants more turnovers from this defense. I too like turnovers but I also like stopping the opponents. I mean 3 and outs are not counted as turnovers but they're just good to me. Now if the SKins defense stop teams from doing long drives and they're forcing turnovers, thats cool. I love the concept of stopping the run on 1st and 2nd down then putting teams in 3rd n long situations, then forcing a punt. I don't want them taking chances all over the place trying to force turnovers, then giving up big chunks of yards. This team has been pretty good defensively yardage wise. I hope they keep that while trying to force TO's. What do you guys think?
SWFLSkins
I think our secondary has been held back too long and not only needs INT.'s but a choesion not seen here in the last two years. It is time to put the fear back into the opposing offense. Good coverage sacks would work for me.
DGREENHULK
I want a D that "when it counts" in the 4th Qtr and we have the lead or need a stop to get the back to shut down the O. Blache played it way too safe in those situations with his bend but don't break style and it cost us wins many times. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I want an aggressive D but like you said one that isn't taking ill advised chances *cough* (Laron) all over the field. I remember one of those games against the Cowbums , low scoring at Fed Ex field. They held the Cowbums all game long, then let them do a 4th quarter drive. I was pissed. ttr77
I agree. There is such a thing as being TOO aggressive, especially when the secondary might be an issue.
honejc
i want a D that makes the qb/WR piss their panties every time they walk onto the field. what you hear/see form the jets D (as much as it pains me to say .. and i threw up a little in my mouth) is what i want the redskins to be better than
GaryGreenMonk
I agree. There is such a thing as being TOO aggressive, especially when the secondary might be an issue. I think being more agressive IS the goal of the defense this year. It's hard to be too agressive.. if you are in the QB's face or knocking him down, he can't throw the ball. that said.. what an agressive defense will need to look for are things like screens, delays, end arounds, sideline passes.. those kinds of things will burn you if you are overly agressive, but if our guys get good at spotting those things coming,.. then you're set.. hopefully Fletch will help out a lot with that. BurgundyBlog
all i want is an end to this nauseating, all-consuming feeling that, on third and 11 with the clock under two minutes, we are definitely giving up a 24-yard catch-and-run to the slot receiver on a basic fly pattern. THEREALTOR1
This is what I wanna see: Crunch: Defensive end Dexter Manley sacks Dallas' Danny White in the last playoff game before Super Bowl XVII. Crunch: Defensive end Brian Orakpo sacks Dallas' Tony Romo sits to pee in the last playoff game before Super Bowl XLV! Hail!
Genghis Khan
just watch highlights of the green bay packers last year and you'll get an idea of what I want to see from this defense. They made a lot of turnovers and had pressure from all positions. They had safety and corner blitz with a combo of press and zone coverage. They always had the offense confused about what was coming for them and the best part they where in the same position as us last year with being new to the 3-4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym0kfj1QdpY
clskinsfan
I wanna see Los catch at least 1 interception. I want to see Landry actually cover somebody. I want to see how Carter is going to do at LB. I want to see how Fat Albert plays out of position. There are so many question marks on this defense right now. The thing I want to see the most is the D actually win a game. Last year it seemed they just lost all of them.
Johns Bass
Secondary = ? Pick the CB's against a 4 WR set...ouch... That is your 4th quarter; hopefully there can be a whole bunch of pressure up front because there is not a lot of punch here.
pjfootballer
While 3 and outs are good, but you won't win the field position battle on 3 and outs. Turnovers change field position and change the momentum of games.

Just curious, against Hall, Rogers, Barnes, and Tryon. I always assume that the 4th receiver will usually be on par talent wise with the 3rd or 4th CB anyways (IF we use a dime defense against a 4 receiver set that is)
S.T.real,lights,out
I wanna see us get off the field on 3rd and long. Seems we always give up the 3rd and long.
ragemdw
Our defense the past few years was all about bend dont break. There was not a much blitzing. It was about stopping the run and trying to stop the big play down field. We did not put a lot of pressure on the opposing QB and this prevented turnovers from occurring and exposed our secondary. I think that Hasslett is going to be aggressive and try to get our d-line and linebackers in on the QB. I think that this can work well and will cause some big defensive plays. Hopefully our offense stays on the field enough to give the defense some break though. A lot of times our defense just look exhausted and that caused the breaking last year. Always A Commander Never A Captain
Turnovers create a chance for the defense to score points. And turnovers usually mean muuuuuch better field position than you would ordinarily have through special teams. Cause we all know our special teams isn't that hot at returning, especially not last season.
