E-Dog Night
Just about a half an hour away... Three things I think we will see at some point this season: 1) Betty Draper will drive out to see Dons "ex-wife", such as she is. This will begin a process of Betty having a better understanding of Don, which will gradually meld into sympathy, leading to a reconciliation. 2) Sal will rejoin the new firm at some point and come out of the closet. 3) Roger Sterling will wake up one morning and hate his new wife. Three things I want to see at some point this season: 1) Joanie's boobs. (Damn you, AMC) 2) Pete and Peggy get more involved, in some way or another. 3) Beatles influence on fashion and advertising

E-Dog Night
I want to see Don punch Betty's new husband in the nose. After tonight's episode I think it might happen, if he doesn't punch one of his clients first. And who know Don liked getting slapped around by hookers? Couldn't help but notice she looked a little like Peggy. Can't wait to see what the office's reaction to the WSJ article will be. Loved the new office BTW. Favorite line: "I can tell what you see in her. You could have had it without marrying it. How can you stand living in that man's dirt?"
The Tris
Shocking that the best show currently on TV has only 3 replies in its thread. Guess it is easier to like a Twinkie (Entourage) than a fine steak. Just about a half an hour away...Three things I think we will see at some point this season: 1) Betty Draper will drive out to see Dons "ex-wife", such as she is. Betty is a cold character to me, even more so without Don. While I could see some understanding, I don't think that Don would take her back at this point. 2) I think that this is likely as well. Too good a show to open a complex plot line like Sal's and not explore it more. I also really liked Ken, and hope he is back. Paul, eh, I think his progressiveness would be a good dynamic, but as a character I can take or leave him. 3) Yes. I absolutely agree. I would not be surprised if he tries to court "Joanie" again. I am also fearful that Roger could suffer a fatal heart attack at some point. Three things I want to see at some point this season:1) Joanie's boobs. (Damn you, AMC) 2) Pete and Peggy get more involved, in some way or another. 3) Beatles influence on fashion and advertising 1) I'll take a lingerie scene 2) Interesting dynamic between the two of them last night. Seem to have a good professional relationship. 3) I thought it was interesting that they used "The Nashville Teens" who I had never heard of as the British Invasion starter. Also confirmes Fall 1964 as the current date. I want to see Don punch Betty's new husband in the nose. Favorite line: "I can tell what you see in her. You could have had it without marrying it. How can you stand living in that man's dirt?" Henry is such a snivling douche IMO. Don absolutely SLAYED him with the "Believe me Henry, everybody thinks this is temporary." (My second favorite line). Doesn't get much more lonely that S&M with a hooker on Thanksgiving. My interpretation was this was the most clear sign of his self-loathing of what his personal life had become. I think the WSJ article will be Don's best Ad for SCDP yet, and will lead to a delicate balance between his desire for privacy and his desire to grow professionally. Office was cool but a bit confusing. Lots of doors everwhere. My favorite line, delivered by a Christmas-morning-excited Pete "I can use my expense account if I say they are whores!" I laughed out loud. VERY excited for this season. GREAT first episode.
Bang
I watched the first two seasons on DVD. I tried to enjoy it, but nothing ever happened. Everything wound so slowly.. i gave up. Interesting to see the lifestyle and fashion of the early 60s, it's a good cast... but beyond that I didn't find anything particularly compelling. What am I missing? ~Bang

Interesting to see the lifestyle and fashion of the early 60s, it's a good cast... but beyond that I didn't find anything particularly compelling. What am I missing? ~Bang It is a slow moving, charachter-driven period show with good, sometimes great acting. That's pretty much it. If that isn't your cup of tea, you're not missing anything. My wife and I watch it, and it's decent, but I don't get the adulation of many people out there. It's different than most things on TV so it does have that going for it. Having a decent, non premium channel alternative to all the reality shows or, "Crime Scene: Topeka" show out there is nice.
Bang
It does have great acting, and the cast is terrific. But the storylines seems very slow moving with not much climax. I like the characters.. the graphic artist who I think is gay, but It has it's moments for me,, some things about it I really like. Don's past life is intriguing, the comedian and his manager wife are a hoot,, but overall, I think the most engrossing thing to me is the period itself, and that just wasn't enough to hold me. ~Bang

What am I missing? ~Bang Well, you might not be missing anything. Mad Men is often a delibrate, plodding show, that can bore people. It certainly bores my girlfriend, who was asleep after 5 minutes last night of what I thought was an excellent episode (though she had only seen a handful of shows). There is not a lot of typical action in MM. There are no murders, there's no drugs, theres no supernatural events. It is a relationship driven show. What make it great is that it is the best at what it does. I have never seen another show with better personal and professional relationships. The closest thing I can compare it to is the Sopranos minus the blood. Which makes sense, as the creator is a former writer under David Chase. Which, again, explains how it can be slow and plodding at times, not unlike the Sopranos. I find the acting to be better than any other show on TV, and some of the best moments to me, are when no dialogue is being spoken. It is a very nuanced show, and it is easy to overlook some of the messages and symbolism being put out. And as you have said, it being a period piece is one of the more compelling traits of the show. The lifestyles and the pop culture of the time is particularly interesting to me. Above all, the characters are what makes the show, and they are very complex and engaging people. I'm not going to go blow by blow on each of them, but I will say that if Roger Sterling doesn't make you laugh, this show is certainly not for you. I don't begrudge anyone for not taking to this show, it is not for everyone. And it seems you gave it a fair chance and it didn't take. All I can say at this point is that the first three season have set us up for this season, and that I expect S4 to take the show to new heights with the professional changes to the characters on a micro scale, and the social changes in America as we move into the latter portion of the 60's on a macro scale. And if that is not enough, you'll get more than your fair share of scotch-drinking, chain-smoking, prostitute-banging, womanizing advertising executives. But for me, while other shows are on summer vacation, and we await Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men is the best show on TV.
Hooper
Thought it was great -- as usual. And can't wait for next week -- as usual. Between this and Breaking Bad, AMC has the two best shows on TV in my opinion.

The character development is intense, realistic and deliciously complex, and their moral ambiguities challenge the viewer. The costume design is breathtaking. The men kick ass & take names as they drink and f*** their way through every episode. The women are all beautifuland interesting, each in their own way. It's Manhattan in the 60's. MEANDWARF
I want to see someone get their foot run over by a riding mower. "It looks like Ima Jima out there!" -Rogar Sterling. Classic line by one of my favorite characters.

The Tris
anybody notice the "real" Dove ad? The one they made look like part of the show I missed that, where was it? I do enjoy how the actual commercials are sometimes "throwback" ads (like the BMW one). I think companies should use throwback advertising more often. Even throwback product packaging I think would be cool and sell well.

I forget where exactly it was, but it was done in throw back style but they had two ad guys talking about how to advertise dove soap. It took me a second to figure out that it was an ad and not part of the show.

HA1LV1CT0RY
Did she get that photo professionally done? Exclusively for this contest? I'm not sure if that photo was done exclusivly for this contest. She has lots of photo's that give off that kind of vibe. She does a lot of stuff for her VCU art student friends, so not "professionally" per say, but there are tons of talented people here. E-Dog Night
Not my favorite episode ever. Just when you think Peggy is the voice of reason, she reminds you that she's straight up mental. Glad to see Freddie back, clean and sober.
Elessar78
Really? Freddy is a lame character, IMO. All the other characters have depth and he's just a caricature. Otherwise, I agree with you. A pretty awkward episode.
MattFancy
Ok so I've done some massive catching up on this show. I watched seasons 2 and the 3 the last 2 weeks. This is easily my favorite show on TV and it just gets better every episode. I keep saying the Don and Betty will get back together. And what the hell is up with Glenn? That kid is weird lol
The Tris
I actually don't think Don and Betty will get back together. She will just reveal herself as a worse and worse person as the season goes on. Plus, Don still has to bag the nurse and the survey woman. Glenn is the creepiest character in the history of TV.

Agreed on all accounts (especially about the psycho kid). My wife always says that what she really hates about Betty is that she's so ****ed up that she actually makes you feel sorry for Don, who is pretty much scum himself. Case in point about Don - what he did to his secretary this past episode. Kept his pimp hand strong.
