MustangSteve
Donovan McNabb has done everything one could hope a quarterback would do between the day the Washington Redskins traded for him and today. He has assumed the mantle of leadership at a level not seen around the team in decades. McNabb has spent extra time at Redskins Park learning the new offense. He has reached out to the other side of the ball and been in touch with Albert Haynesworth during the defensive lineman's sometimes-contentious dispute with the team. This week, rather than engage in a little R&R during his last full week off until January, he has invited teammates to Arizona to particpate in an activity called "Hell Week". But the Redskins didn't trade for him hoping that he would live up to expectations from April through July. They got him to perform from September through at least December and, perhaps, February. McNabb will be expected to maintain the leadership role and get it done between the white lines as well. From the beginning of camp, he will be on the spot. The first thing he will be expected to do is master Mike and Kyle Shanahan's new offense. McNabb has not had to learn a new NFL offense since his first year in the league. He and Andy Reid have been joined at the hip since 1999 when the Eagles drafted McNabb out of Syrauce with the second overall pick and hitched their wagon to him. Certainly there have been tweaks and adjustments to the Philly offense over 11 years, but the changes were gradual. Here he is getting the whole thing thrown at him at once--new plays, new terminology, new everything. If not for the injuries to Mark Brunell and Portis, we could have had a great shot at another title in 05. it's hard to win in the playoffs with your 2 best leaders playin at 50% due to injuries. We are definitely on the right track now!
