Least favorite sports media personalities

Working the reverse angle on this one, just expanding to non-ESPN

My least favorite sports media personalities have to be the guys doing ESPN radio on weekdays, especially in the morning. Mike and Mike are a horrible duo

Badly conceived song parodies/comedy skits, poorly edited and poorly performed by fake British interns.

Here are some bad things about the average Mike and Mike song parody:

1. The two guys who perform the parodies can’t sing. At all. It’s like listening to myself sing, and I can do that at home.

2. A “parody” should attempt to display the absurdity of the subject of the parody through careful, clever, one-off referential humor, or through use of reductio ad absurdum. What we get from Mike and Mike is a popular song with different words that almost, but don’t quite fit, and have nothing to do with the chosen song. You know that movie series of “Date Movie” and “Disaster Movie” and all the other “X Movies”? They’re not really parodies, they just throw a bunch of pop culture at you and you’re supposed to think it’s funny simply because it’s there. Mike and Mike parodies are the functional equivalent of those movies.

3. They tend to be fairly long, which can eat into entertaining commercial time.

Cowherd is one of the worst radio show hosts up there, blatant plagiarizer and insensitive jerk who was caught making several insensitive comments about both Sean Taylor and deceased wrestlers. As much crap as people give Jim Rome for the Jim Everett incident, at least he never mocked anyone's death.

Mark May is an idiot

Lou Holtz can barely be understood on TV

Steven A. Smith has to be the worst that I've ever heard. I can't stand listening to him for more than a minute. Jim Rome can take a dead horse and beat it beyond recognition. Mike and Mike aren't horrible but they are nowhere as good as they think they are.

Skip Bayless is annoying as hell. I can't stand him and it seems alot of people feel the same way.

I have no problem with Mike and Mike. They have a great radio show the keeps you informed on all the latest news. Maybe Mike and Mike themselves don't add much to the show, but its a great way to get caught up on all the latest news around sports.

Im not sure of the Mike&Mike hate either. They atleast stay on topic (SPORTS) and arent full of them selves.

That Eric Kusselius(sp) dude is absolutely horrid with his motor-mouth ****eyness.

Bubblegum mouth Colin Cowliherd is pretty bad also. I cant stand him. Screaming Stephen A. Smith has just become funny to me. He is what Chris Rock would be if he knew anything about sports. I dont consider him a sports/media/reporter...just a source of entertainment for me.

Why the Mike and Mike hate?

I posted the link in the first post.

It had about a million reasons why they're unlistenable. Every time the radio wakes me up at 6 AM...and I hear that annoying voice WEEEEEEEEELLL GOOD MORNING TO YOU ALL MIKE AND MIKE IN THE MORNING ESPN RADIO I rush to turn off the radio so fast.

Can't stand Greenie anymore. Can't stand Golic. Can't stand the poor parodies, the over-commercialism...

Mike and Mike are so overplayed they did Arena League football and the MNF games...in fact they used to do ESPN Sportscenter too back when I had cable. They are shoved down our throats by ESPN and enough is enough, I'm fed up with them and their bull****

Greenberg’s terrible, awful, moronic pre-commercial teases. Examples:

1. Coming up, one of the greatest players in NFL history is actually a horse. We’ll talk about that, plus Peter Gammons, when we come back.

2. Coming up, Lebron James can never wear socks again. We’ll tell you why after Sportscenter.

3. Coming up after the break, a certain NFL coach has something in common with Bing Crosby. We’ll tell you what in one minute.

4. Coming up, two famous baseball players both suffer from diphtheria. We’ll tell you about it in one.

Hack

Why the Mike and Mike hate?

From the above blog:

Mike and Mike are dumb. They’re clean to a fault. There is no edge. There is no insight. There is no desire to learn more about the sports they allegedly cover. They’re a big Jay Leno monologue. They’re “According to Jim.”

Cowherd.

Typically when i'm in the car for about a half hour around noon I'll have him on, and it occurred to me that I can't listen for more than a minute without calling him a douchebag for one thing or another.

So I decided to start timing it for fun.

Longest I've gone without rolling my eyes at the king of the know-nothing douchebags.. 1:44

Jim Rome... although he's syndicated his show is on ESPN. Worst. Radio guy. EVER.

It's not even CLOSE.

I dunno, I listen to Mike and Mike almost every morning. They always have good guest on the show, the last 2 days with DeMaurice Smith and Jeff Pash were pretty good. They are pretty much there to bring you the latest news in sports and get you caught up on what happened the night before.

And who on the radio doesn't push commercials? And who doesn't do teasers before commercials? Have you ever seen a reality tv show?

Cowherd is worse than Rome. Cowherd in fact made scathing and insensitive remarks about Sean Taylor. Jim Rome simply offered condolences and didn't jump to conclusions, unlike Cowherd.

If anyone is as bad as Mike and Mike, it is probably Cowherd. I would say that Cowherd is probably the worst radio show host in sports due to his strong unprofessional nature, and his blatant plagiarism of other people's work.

I can't listen to any of the ESPN weekday guys for more than 30 seconds without turning the radio off.

I agree....the problem now is that all these talking heads (SPORTS MEDIA RADIO HOSTS) have huge egos and think they are celebrities. They all try to inject humor into 95% of their show when all I want to hear is SPORTS not garbage jokes.

The only time I can really listen to sports talk/media on the radio nowadays is when they have an athlete on for an interview.

I tend to hate them, but still will listen when they bring on a good guest. Working for ESPN, they're going to get the best guests because of who they work for.

My problem with the show is that it's canned and generic. There's no originality, it's too PC, and Mike and Mike don't seem to have much in common with their listeners. I was pretty pissed when they replaced Czaben.

Lavar Arrington by a mile.

Most of the others mentioned in this thread can at least string their words together in a semi-coherent manner. Lavar spends half his show going "uh...uh..." searching for the correct word. Then when he manages to find it, he'll repeat himself 3 times. Not to mention he's a terrible interviewer. He has absolutely no business having his own radio show.

Sam Huff is up there too.

Commentators:

Cowherd (Elitist douchebag)

Skip Bayless (Doesn't really argue rationally. He just yells and says inflammatory, contradictory stuff for kicks and giggles)

Keyshawn Johnson (Inarticulate fool.)

Woody Paige (Same strain as Skip Bayless.)

Mariotti (Smug SOB)

Plaschke (Ditto)

Booth:

Joe Buck (I don't need to say anything more there.)
