Duckus
Michele Backmann is ****ing insane. This is the last thing the Tea Party needs . . . . but i am sure it will be hilarious. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/16/tea-party-caucus-michele_n_648817.html Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) has plans in the works to create a Tea Party Caucus in the United States House of Representatives. Bachmann on Thursday filed paperwork to establish the House affinity group, which the conservative congresswoman says will call for "fiscal responsibility, adherence to the Constitution, and limited government." "This caucus will espouse the timeless principles of our founding, principles that all Members of Congress have sworn to uphold," Bachmann said in a statement. "The American people are doing their part and making their voices heard and this caucus will prove that there are some here in Washington willing to listen." Bachmann took to Twitter to credit Kentucky Republican Senate candidate Rand Paul with inspiring her to start the new caucus. "I applaud Rand Paul and look forward to bringing the Tea Party to the House!" she wrote. Earlier this week, Paul raised the idea of founding a "tea-party caucus" in the Senate in an interview with the National Review. (By the way, Bachmann already co-chairs the Congressional Media Fairness Caucus.) Below is a copy of a letter sent by Bachmann to Rep. Bob Brady (D-Pa.), who chairs the Committee on House Administration, to register the Tea Party Caucus:
Baculus
Bachmann better make sure she survives reelection first before she makes any long-term plan. Also, if she is so fiscal responsibility oriented, she better quit receiving her farm subsidies, of which she has received a quarter-million dollars of it over the years. Or perhaps she's just a hypocrite and her supporters don't even realize it . . . http://www.politico.com/blogs/glennthrush/1209/Antisocialist_Bachmann_got_250k_in_federal_farm_subsidies.html
Burgold
"This caucus will espouse the timeless principles of our founding, principles that all Members of Congress have sworn to uphold," Bachmann said in a statement. "The American people are doing their part and making their voices heard and this caucus will prove that there are some here in Washington willing to listen." What does this even mean? It's awfully vague. Edit: The letter is still a little bit better, but I'd want an operational definition of "fiscal responsibility" and if there are those violating the Constitution and she's currently mum about it she doesn't deserve her seat. I'd also want to know what "limited government" means.
SellersHappens
"This caucus will espouse the timeless principles of our founding, principles that all Members of Congress have sworn to uphold," Bachmann said in a statement. "The American people are doing their part and making their voices heard and this caucus will prove that there are some here in Washington willing to listen."What does this even mean? It's awfully vague. I think the logic is as follows. Premise: I am awesome. Because I am awesome, other awesome people must share my values. Premise: The founders were awesome. Therefore, the founders would share my values. This is the unstated basis of 90% of all references to the founders.

Hubbs
I'm not a Bachmann fan, but I really don't see what the problem is here. Right now, the more a Republican can associate him/herself with the Tea Party movement, the better. It's politics.
NoCalMike
This is actually good for the tea party, but bad for the republican party. The farther the tentacles of the tea party reach into the republican party, the more it will split the GOP vote in November. It seems the right is now falling for the same good intentions a lot of Dems had with the Green Party in 2000. As a Liberal, I am willing to sit back and be happy about it though. Oh and for the record, Michelle Bachmann is basically about what we would get if Palin actually was in the Congress or Senate, little substance, a lot of rhetoric and soundbytes about how the other side is evil and unamerican, and in office because the GOP thinks she is hot. Destino
Bachmann is a lunatic. Why the tea party would associate with this nutter is beyond me. I thought they were independents?!
NoCalMike
It seems apparent that for all the ranting tea party protesters have been doing, they are just like any other large mass gathering of people, willing to believe someone at their word cause they give a good speech and because they claim to be on "their side" Bachmann is a loon. Corcaigh
Heh ... Bachman is bat**** insane. She's on a par with Glenn Beck. Both Colin Powell and the Republican former grovernor of Minnesota said they endorsed Barak Obama in part because of her statement during the presidential election campaign: "I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out are they pro-America, or anti-America. I think people would love to see an expose like that." .
NoCalMike
Well looks like Bachmann has her first Tea Party leader supporter..... http://blog.reidreport.com/2010/07/tea-partier-mark-williams-writes-open-letter-to-lincoln-from-the-coloreds/ But Williams was just getting started. Also Wednesday, he took his “non-racist” commentary to the next level, penning his version of an “open letter” to Abe Lincoln … from the “colored people…” in which he accuses black people, or sorry “coloreds,” of not wanting to work, of “striving for welfare,” and wanting to buy “flat screen TVs” with white people’s stolen money. Seriously. It’s an apparent attempt at satire, I suppose, but which aligns perfectly with the views of the tea party movement, which is by and large a mash-up of Libertarians who want to get rid of Social Security, disappointed Palin cultists and old geezer racists who believe Obama only got himself elected so he can steal all the white people’s money and hand it out in the hood. Destino
Well looks like Bachmann has her first Tea Party leader supporter.....:facepalm:http://blog.reidreport.com/2010/07/tea-partier-mark-williams-writes-open-letter-to-lincoln-from-the-coloreds/ Here is the letter... i noticed on your link ol Mark took it down and replaced it with some more BS Dear Mr. Lincoln We Coloreds have taken a vote and decided that we don’t cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask of us Colored People and we demand that it stop! In fact we held a big meeting and took a vote in Kansas City this week. We voted to condemn a political revival of that old abolitionist spirit called the ‘tea party movement’. The tea party position to “end the bailouts” for example is just silly. Bailouts are just big money welfare and isn’t that what we want all Coloreds to strive for? What kind of racist would want to end big money welfare? What they need to do is start handing the bail outs directly to us coloreds! Of course, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is the only responsible party that should be granted the right to disperse the funds. And the ridiculous idea of “reduce[ing] the size and intrusiveness of government.” What kind of massa would ever not want to control my life? As Coloreds we must have somebody care for us otherwise we would be on our own, have to think for ourselves and make decisions! The racist tea parties also demand that the government “stop the out of control spending.” Again, they directly target coloreds. That means we Coloreds would have to compete for jobs like everybody else and that is just not right. Perhaps the most racist point of all in the tea parties is their demand that government “stop raising our taxes.” That is outrageous! How will we coloreds ever get a wide screen TV in every room if non-coloreds get to keep what they earn? Totally racist! The tea party expects coloreds to be productive members of society? Mr. Lincoln, you were the greatest racist ever. We had a great gig. Three squares, room and board, all our decisions made by the massa in the house. Please repeal the 13th and 14th Amendments and let us get back to where we belong. Sincerely Precious Ben Jealous, Tom’s Nephew NAACP Head Colored Person
