Buffalo skins fan - DC Restaurant Suggestions

Okay, so Last year My wife and I went to my first game in person and loved it so we're doing it again this year against Houston.

Last year we got some suggestions from people on here about easiest metro ride to the game. So I'd like to thank you guys for that.

I also asked about restaurants and stuff, and went to a place recommended (Tony something's Mongolian Buffet that was amazing) so we'll be going back there again but I'm looking for some other places to eat that are good in DC.

We're staying in Crystal City, but don't mind travelling via the metro just about anywhere. We'll be in DC for 4 days so I need some ideas for places to eat that are good. The only other places we've tried out there are Old Ebbitt Grill, and Champps after the game last year.

Any suggestions are appreciated. It can be any type of food.

EDIT: any suggestions on things to do/see is fine as well. We've been to all the major tourist spots (memorials, smithsonians, etc...) but anything a bit lesser known that is fun.

1. Spy Museum (if you are into that stuff) (8th and F, NW)

2. Kinkead's (Seafood) 2000 Pennsylvania Avenue (this is the place to splurge)

3. Clyde's (M Street - Georgetown - a little overrated but a DC institution - lunch or dinner)

4. Martin's Tavern (Wisconsin Avenue - Georgetown - Great old place for breakfast/brunch)

5. Cake Love (15 and U Street, NW) (Good dessert stuff)

I don't as I don't near there anymore, but Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives has been showing alot of different places in the DC and Baltimore area lately. I have found this list to be really helpful when traveling to cities I have never been.

From Yelp with a list of places and ratings...............

Does Clydes still serve a dish of fried oysters on a bed of sprouts on an english muffin with bernaise? Last time I was there it was really memorable. Man I can taste that, I must be getting hungry.

Right on DDD the other night, Comet Ping Pong was highlighted. Personal pizzas and ping pong, what's not to love? I'm going soon.

1. Legal Seafoods right there in Crystal City.

2. For interesting, ethnic "cheap eats" type stuff, try:

El Pollo Rico (Peruvian rotisserrie chicken) in Arlington near the Court House metro.

Bamian (Afghan) on Leesburg Pike in Falls Church -- very nice place but still cheap.

Bangkok 54 (Thai) on Columbia Pike in south arlington.

Present (Vietnamese) on Route 50 in Arlington -- again, very nice but you can eat cheap.

3. For just a flat out fantastic meal, my favorite restaurant in Northern Virginia is the Carlyle in Shirlington Village. They just do an outstanding job there.

4. You will probably see a place called "Crystal City Restaurant" near your hotel. It is indeed a restaurant. And a strip club. Just throwing that out there.

Ray's Hell Burger in Arlington...

one tip: if you get it to go, you have to load it up in the styrofoam containers yourself after you get your order... be sure to separate the bun from the burger while traveling... if you don't, they're so juicy, by the time you get where you're going, the bun will be soaked and fall apart... i know that doesn't make it sound appetizing, but it's the best burger i've ever had... and i've had A LOT of burgers...

The Legal Seafoods here is turrible. And is that Crystal City place still famous for clams on the half-shell?

I like eating unusual foods or foods that are a little harder to get in other areas. So, I'm going to suggest you go Ethiopian. It's fun, different, and I think there are some really cool and different flavors.

If you want to go Ethiopian, but a little safer there is a pretty nice place that has been frequented by a bunch of the power elite and a few Presidents down in Georgetown. There are some more authentic places sprinkled around Adams Morgan and all about the area.

If you feel like checking out Bethesda, head to Mona Mi Gabi's... It's a "Classic French Bistro" with amazing steaks/seafood and a ridiculous wine selection; one of my favorites when it comes to a date-night.

There is also a really great movie theater right next door that plays mostly indie-flicks and foreign films... Do your homework, choose the right film, and you will have an awesome night on Woodmont Ave.

Good luck!

I've pimped Tony Cheng's Mongolian and Chinese here before, so I'm taking credit for that suggestion unless someone else claims it.;)

Anyway, do you like lamb dishes? If so, and you're going downtown, I'd suggest checking out the Lebanese Taverna. It's right next to the Woodley Park metro station, and they do fantastic lamb dishes. Also, order some of their hummus bar as an appetizer.

And if you need a drink afterwards, Murphy's Irish Pub is right around the corner.

I can't suggest where to eat because I haven't lived in VA. for 7 years but If your a War nut try the Aberdeen Proving Grounds just up the highway towards Baltimore.

It is something different and has an incredible amount of WWII tanks to see.

2nd Link has a few pictures.
