The Brave Little Toaster Oven
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/crime-scene/pr-georges/md-state-police-officer-shot-k.html An off-duty Maryland state police officer was shot and killed early Friday in the parking lot of a Forestville area restaurant, police said.Wesley Brown, 24, was shot shortly before 12:40 a.m. at the Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar on Donnell Drive after an incident inside the restaurant involving a “disorderly” customer who refused to pay a bill, Col. Michael Blow told reporters. Brown, who was working part-time as a security officer at the Applebee's, escorted the individual outside, police said. About 30 minutes later, a gunman ambushed the trooper as he exited the restaurant. The man who disputed his bill is considered a “person of interest,” police said, but they are not limiting their search to him. Brown appeared to have been shot without warning as he spoke on a mobile phone, Terrence B. Sheridan, Superintendent of the Maryland State Police, told reporters. Brown was wearing a jacket that displayed the word “police” and he had a marked police car in front of the restaurant, police said. The wounded trooper stumbled into the restaurant covered in blood, at which point patrons called 911, police said. Brown was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. It wasn't clear how many times he had been shot, but multiple casings were found in the parking lot, Sheridan said. “We have recovered a lot of evidence,” Maj. Andy Ellis, a county police department spokesman, said. Police describe the suspect, who fled on foot, as an African American male between about 5’ 6” and 5' 8" weighing about 130 pounds with short hair and a little bit of a beard who was wearing a Hugo Boss jacket. He is considered armed and dangerous, police said. A perimeter was set up immediately after police arrived at the scene and a search is ongoing. More than 50 witnesses have been interviewed, police said. “We won’t stop until we find this man,” Sheridan said. Gov. Martin O'Malley told reporters that the investigation is “very, very active.” click the link for more :mad::mad: What a cowardly act....the cop wasnt even involved in the incident...**** you *******! :cuss: RIP TFC Brown

Exactly...that whole area is blocked off right now..cant even get down Donnell Drive to Penn Ave. The Forestville barrack he worked at is where my father first started out when he got out of the police academy in 72. I've probably met this officer before somewhere along the line...its very sad reading about all that he did in the community too. I feel really bad for his family
Destino
I don't know who killed this guy or for what but I'd like to think that if someone had to die it would be for more than a disputed bill at a low budget eatery. What a waste of a life. I hope his family is able to find some peace after such a senseless act.

To take another's life over something as meaningless as getting thrown out of a restaurant after you ate a meal you didn't pay for.

I know this is not a moment to preach, but we need to stop marginalizing life in our society. From Friday the 13th to the National Media, life is scene as a means to and end instead of the other way around. I mean look at this situation. It seems that two men lost their life over a meal. One is dead, and the other is looking life without parole. Who wins in the end......?
thebluefood
Money is never worth taking a life for (though people seem to think so), and certainly not if it's a bill at Applebee's.
Popeman38
police officer deaths are up 40 percent this year.scary And yet there are those on this board who will say that police present a greater danger to civilians than civilians present to police.
boobiemiles
Ugh, this scumbag needs to be found quickly and made an example of. You are too old to say stuff like this. Where is the wisdom? What will that accomplish. When are we going to start looking at the truth? Enough of this John Wayne ****! Do you really think a public execution will pacify the problem? boobiemiles
And yet there are those on this board who will say that police present a greater danger to civilians than civilians present to police. I don't think any one would argue that we need police presnce, but that presence does not eleviate the problem. In essence a police officer is at greater risk today, because people look at them as an appendage of the system. So their is a bull's eye on their back. I think some police try to oppress, or coupe with the situation in detsructive ways, i.e. Training Day. But i feel the majority are like all of us; they work long hours, get paid ****, and try to raise a family while chasing the American Dream. But it's all bs. It's all a dog and pony show. No matter your color, if you feel your existence is marginalized, you have nothing to lose. And those are the people that feel they can make a statement through the same values we cherish as a society. We like destruction, it's part of our nature. We like sensationalism. We celebrate the outlaw. We pay big bucks for Scar Face stuff. Until we solve the problem nothing will change.

SWFLSkins
And yet there are those on this board who will say that police present a greater danger to civilians than civilians present to police. But this is another reason why Florida has such liberal concealed weapons laws and also is rather tolerant in self defense cases. You see a cop get shot in Fl. and the perp better duck and run.

Rocky21
The officer founded a mentoring group, Young Men Enlightening Younger Men, that would take teenagers on field trips throughout the D.C. area to places like the National Zoo and museums, and bring in professionals to give talks. Brown described the group’s mission on its Web site to help kids struggling academically. "What happens to those who try, but who just don’t make it because of poor school systems or a lack of support from home? Where does he go?” Brown wrote. “We believe that if a young man is trying to make himself a better man and a productive member of society, then we are PROUD of him.” Sounds like the metro area lost a good man. RedskinsFan28
I actually know the cop-Wesley and I grew up in the same church....same age. Real cool guy, a quality human being in PG County who tried to better others' lives....ironically, my sister actually works at that Applebee's (she wasn't there that night). My prayers go out to his family and his fiancee.
Kosher Ham
Sorry for the senseless loss. But sorry, I wouldn't ever eat at a restaurant that needed an off-duty police officer there to begin with. Just means lots of **** has gone down there before.
