Authorities in Prince George's County were looking for a suspect in the fatal shooting early Friday of an off-duty Maryland trooper who was working security at a Forestville restaurant.

Trooper Wesley Brown, a three-year veteran of the force, had escorted an angry male customer out of an Applebee's on Thursday evening, a Prince George's County police spokesman said. About 12:40 a.m., as Brown, 24, left the restaurant in the 3300 block of Donnell Drive, police said the man — hiding in the parking lot — fired several shots at the trooper. Police were uncertain if the suspect left and returned or remained in the parking lot after he was asked to leave the restaurant.

Brown, who was wearing a jacket that on the back clearly identified him as a law enforcement officer, was talking on a phone when he was shot, Maryland State Police Superintendent Col. Terrence B. Sheridan told the Associated Press. Brown was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Prince George's County police spokesman Officer Henry Tippett said.

Damn that's nuts. What is it with people lately?

Nice place that needs cops at the local casual eatery.

Most place like that have cops there after like 9 or 10 because of the bar. I know the TGIFridays in Towson has cops because of their bar. I don't think they have cops hanging out in there at like 5pm on a Sunday.
