Brian Orakpo Autograph Signing at Pentagon

HSW

Recommended Posts

Just back from the Best Buy in the Pentagon. They have a sign

saying that Brian Orakpo will be there on 22 Jun from 1-3 for

a military appreciation autograph signing. Spoke with the manager

and he said that they will have free posters to get signed and

that it is also ok to bring other stuff like jersey's and footballs, etc.

If you do not have a CAC or someone to escort you inside the bldg

you will not be able to get to the signing.

I'm going to have to try to take off work for that.

Not to sound un-thankful....but doing in in the middle of the day during the week doesn't make the most sense. Most of us military guys work during the week during those times. (Luckily, I am in charge of my shop so I can give myself time off!!)

Edit: I don't know the area that well. I'm assuming its not a store IN the Pentagon. Is it the Pentagon City store? Is this the correct address? I don't want to show up at the wrong store.

Actually it makes a lot of sense. Where else can they get

so many joint service personnel togther in one place at a time

when they will all be there? Also do not forget the DOD

civilians who work at the Pentagon also. I do not think they

could have picked a better time or location in terms of

overall numbers.

The store is inside the pentagon. If you can get an escort who has a building pass or if you have a CAC card then you will be able to get in. Otherwise, you will not have access. It's possible but unlikely that they will have a visitor tour or something set up for it, so you can try giving the tour office at the pentagon a call. You should be able to google the phone number.

EDIT: If you don't know what a CAC card is. It is a "Common Access Card" and it is issued to government employees, military and civilian, in order to access certain facilities and use government equipment (computers and a few other things). You need this card or a building pass to get into the area with stores. Also, I don't believe that CAC card holders are able to escort anyone. I think you need someone with a building pass that does not say "NE" (No Escort) on it.

100% Correct. Another reason why this is a good location, since

it would be difficult for non-military/DOD personnel to get access

to this "Military Appreciation Event".

Well I didn't realize the store was IN the pentagon so yea, it does make sense. I can't believe there is a store in the Pentagon!

Edit- I have never actually been to the Pentagon so can someone give me a better idea of where to go? I didn't even know there was a shopping area in there. I don't want to flash my CAC at the front door and be walking around in circles (or 5 distinct straight lines) all day

Haha yeah, I think they used to be accessable to the public, but I think since 9/11 it's only for government personnel. You could live in the pentagon if you needed to, they have everything there.

Yeah, the place has changed a LOT in the last few years. This

place is like a Shopping Mall now.

1. Go to the Visitors Entrance which is right next to the metro entrance.

2. Go to the Visitors Processing line which is an immediate left

once you get inside the bldg. Get your temp badge.

3. Go up the escalator and you are in the "Main Concourse" which

is the "shopping area"

4. Make a left on the "T" junction and the Best Buy is on the left

and the end of the hall.

Or get in and ask anyone where the Best Buy is and they will

say it is "right there".

Thanks for the good info.

I see where the Pentagon station is on the metro site but I would be driving up there and the site says there is no parking at the metro. Is there parking anywhere close by? I know I am either going to get there very early because i do'nt know where I'm going and then have hours and hours to kill, or I'm going to think I know what I'm doing and by the time I find the place, it will be sundown.

Closest public parking would be at the Pentagon City Mall. From there

it is about a 15-20 min walk to the Visitor's Entrance. If the weather

sucks you could also hop on the metro from the Pentagon City Mall and the Pentagon is the next stop.

Thanks for the awesome info, HSW. Last question, I promise:

Am I supposed to go in uniform? I had heard that all active duty is supposed to wear dress uniform in DC. I have never had to go, so I never bothered to find out if that is true.

Totally false. Dress uniforms are only worn for special events.

All services wear thier normal seasonal uniforms with the exception

of Joint Staff personnel who are not allowed to wear camo uniforms

anymore. I have been assigned to the DC area for more than

10 years and have only worn my dress uniform about a dozen

times. btw, civies are perfectly fine ... nobody cares around here.

I wonder how many "**** Dallas/Al-Qaeda" autograph requests he will get?

And major props to both Orakpo and the Redskins as a whole for setting this up. Definitely not the same organization that was suing its fans.

HAHA I would pay for that autograph

there's a best buy inside the pentagon? wow thats pretty awesome

don't really understand why they would need one of those in there though lol

It is a small store. About 1/15 the size of a normal store,

if that. It is great to be able to pop in and get the lattest

XBOX 360 or PS3 game.
