Heisenberg
It's crazy. Up until a few years ago I had a buddy list numbering in the hundreds with seemingly half or more of them logged on at any given time. Nowadays when I look at my buddy list virtually nobody is logged in so I have pretty much followed and no longer really use it. I'm guessing facebook chat and gchat must have taken away a ton of users but I'm still amazed by how much it changed in such a short time period. Quincy
Yeah, I still use AIM but it feels like nobody uses it any more. I don't get it, because facebook chat sucks.
Reic
unlimited text messaging/google chat on my phone/facebook chat killed off AIM for me. I used to use it a ton, but rarely anymore.
SkinsHokieFan
I use gchat exclusively now
Destino
I use trillian which basically has all the chats on it at the same time. Most people on chat these days are on gmail.
RedskinFeathers
Welll I linked my fb chat to aim so I guess it's technically AIM....
Heisenberg
Welll I linked my fb chat to aim so I guess it's technically AIM.... How do you do that?
Corcaigh
Use it just at work.
RedskinFeathers
How do you do that? Umm if you download the new AIM I'm fairly certain it does it automatically.... I hate fb chat, but it works a lot better through AIM...it essentially just adds everyone to your buddy list.
Sticksboi05
3 years ago yes. Now, it's run it's time but it's been rendered obsolete.
DarrellsMyHero28
I'm on a Mac and I use Adium (an AIM type program) all the time, but I also sync my GChat and FacebookChat with it so that I can have it all in one place.
Ellis
I use the Windows LIVE Messenger almost daily. A few of my friends do as well.

Veretax
I use miranda IM and www.Meebo.com and I connect to a number of IM services, most used are, MSN, AIM, Yahoo, ICQ, Facebook, GoogleTalk, MySpace
drums and skins
I use Digsby which lets me sign onto aim and facebook, though I typically don't keep my facebook account signed into the chat service because then people expect you to actually be browsing facebook. For the most part, SMS text messaging has killed traditional instant messaging program services.
Rdskn4Lyf21
I'll use iChat here and there to have video chat with friends, but outside of that nope. As others have said, unlimited text messaging did it in for me.
PokerPacker
like others, I use a 3rd party program that interfaces with Aim. Pidgin is my program of choice.
Chachie
I use AIM with iChat.
Old Bay
I don't use a lot of messaging services anymore. AIM used to be the popular one but it seems to have dropped off a lot amongst my friends. Whenever I check in there's usually only a couple of people on. I somewhat attributed it to the fact that most of the people on my list I knew in college and people were online a lot more then. Most people I keep in contact with (via messengers) use MSN.
MattFancy
I logged on for this first time in over a year last week. There may have been like 4 or 5 people on. I remember back in college when EVERYONE was on 24/7. But now that more of my friends have jobs and with text messaging being just as quick and easy, IM isn't my choice of communication anymore. DButz65
Like the OP, none of my friends log into AIM anymore...but I still use yahoo messenger quite a bit, it's better anyway
Botched
I remember back in college when EVERYONE was on 24/7. Yep, that was the only way to communicate in college. If someone wasn't logged on, either it was Christmas break, or they were dead. I hardly even used a phone, it was all AIM. I don't think I've logged on since maybe 2004. renaissance
I use gchat if I'm gonna talk to someone online. And really I only use it during the workday.
The X-Factor
I still use it only because I can sign in automatically when I log into GMail. It's pretty useless now since only about 12 of my friends actually use it regularly now.
SauzzBozz
I use aim still to support my clients but I set it up through Pidgin (XMPP) so that I can manage several accounts through one interface. Also, I want to say things such as Facebook/Myspace chat have killed the use of it.
