Bzapf
That was worse than when that dude pulled Ron Gant's leg off the base to get him out. Worst call I've ever seen. Edited June 3, 2010 by Bzapf

TheDoyler23
Didn't get to see it, what happened? 2 Away in the 9th, batter hits a squibber to the 4.5 hole, Cabrera fields and throws to Gallaraga covering. Guy is OUT, but called safe. Joyce must have thought he was in NY or something...
DixieFlatline
Didn't get to see it, what happened? 2 outs in the 9th. Ground ball between 2nd and 1st. 1st baseman fields it and throws to Galarraga (the pitcher). He catches it and tags bag before the runner. Ump calls him safe. Next batter is out for a 1 hitter. It wasn't a full step difference, but it wasn't too bang bang either.

On a scale of 1-10, that call was a solid 8. But you got to get that right. The worst call I've seen was in the playoffs last year where Joe Mauer hit a ball down like line against the Yankees that was 18" - 2 feet fair, but called foul. There were extra umps on field because of the playoffs....just inexcusable. Of course, the Jeffrey Maier travesty is still a sore subject.

I used to own a 1991 world series documentary video(I was 3 in 1991) that I would watch a bunch of times. So that Gant call will always stand out to me. Oh and poor Tony Tarasco(Sp?) was gonna catch that. LOL. Edited June 3, 2010 by Bzapf

Hitman21ST
So true. I bet this ump won't be signing autographs for the fans tomorrow. He better pray he never gets a game in Detroit again. He'll be the most vilified man in the stadium for the next year at least.

Selig should review that tomorrow and award Galarraga the perfect game. I know it won't happen, but that's what should happen. 3 Perfects in a month's time when there haven't been 3 in a year? That's unbelievable! In my book he gets the perfect game.
Sticksboi05
Baseball sucks. The only sport where a referee can literally cheat someone. That moron Joyce should be immediately fired. That is unacceptable. Edited June 3, 2010 by Sticksboi05

royallypwned
When someone finds a replay, can you post it? I've been watching the hockey game and the Rangers game so I have only heard about it.
Hitman21ST
Tim Donaghy. Umps have more power over the game. They are literally involved in EVERY pitch thrown. Basketball refs don't make calls on every play, baseball umps do. Balls/Strikes, close plays at 1st/home, etc.

thebluefood
That's the only thing I hate about baseball: the game rests in the hands of a few men wearing blue shirts.

'Skins_&_'Stons
Honestly guys? It's a goddamn shame that this is going to overshadow Griffey's retirement.
Hitman21ST
Honestly guys? It's a goddamn shame that this is going to overshadow Griffey's retirement. Definitely agreed. It should have overshadowed it for the right reasons, but now it'll be because of the most infamous call in regular season history (I don't care what you say, a call like that in the verge of a perfect game is worse than anything else in the regular season)
Sticksboi05
Tim Donaghy. He bet and he could ALTER a game. But you can overcome b/s foul calls. You cannot overcome a blatant missed out.
