Rexrode21
I'm not usually a fan of the "This player just hit the market, let's go get them" threads, but with 2 rather big names hitting free agency today I couldn't resist. Ladanian Tomlinson and Darren Sharper are both available. I can easily pass on LT being that he's a Portis equivalent in age and skill right now. LT has the pass catching ability and Portis has the pass protection. So I consider him a wash. Sharper on the other hand seems like a good stop gap for 2 years so that Landry can move to SS. Obviously this all comes down to if the price is right.
Laxpunk2006
No thanks. I cite age for both players which makes me a huge hypocrit because I would like Kevin Mawae for a year or two. Whether we have Campbell who his detractors claim can't read a defense or a rookie we're going to need someone to help make line calls. Mawae has been one of the best his entire career. This allows us to either develop Edwin Williams in Shanahan likes him, develop a late round pick in the 2010 draft/UDFA, or spend a higher pick on one in 2011 when we have more picks. He would obviously be a short term stop gap and I'm not sure he'd be interested in a rebuilding team at this point in his career but money talks and its an uncapped season. If he'll accept a 1 or 2 year contract I'd like to see him in B&G to help solidify a line that is likely to see a lot of new faces young and old. acuratl1984
I would actually like to sign Darren Sharper... as you can see by last year, the guy STILL CAN PLAY!!!!. And if all else he can serve as a teacher for our safeties...
Santana_89
No thanks I'll pass on both Sharper and LT. Something tells if either were to sign here with the Skins they'd end up injured all season long (ala Jason Taylor). Hope it works out for them ...just as long as it isn't here in D.C. redskindan07
If I had to pick one of them I would say Sharper. But even that would only be a year or two max
LaRonDontLikeUgly
Both players would be upgrades over what we have now, but that's not saying much. Fix the title.
bushwack
Pass on both, I wouldn't touch LT, and I still believe Sharper will re-sign with NO, if not he'll just go after the largest contract and there's no reason to overpay a guy who's on his last legs. Spartacus87
No thanks on either guy. Both are only good for limited roles anymore. LT would likely be used primarily for goal line touches, and Sharper doesn't play the run anymore at all, he's strictly a pass coverage safety. terrifNick21
Sharper, no question. No doubt about it.
Koolblue13
Sharper only looked as good as he did, because he was playing in you know whos defense, that makes safeties look great. Pass on both.
SIXX99
Sharper would be ok but he would basically be a band-aid for a year or two. He is probably just a "one year wonder". I think being in Gregg Williams system for a year rejuvenated him.

Very true, Gregg Williams can make a mediocre safety pretty good (i.e. LaRon Landry).
Rypien1191
Sigh. I thought we might actually make it through without mentioning these guys. Surprised the mods have let this one go without editing it...
RenegadeTK
i would take sharper in a heartbeat. dude plays with heart and can be a great leader on a team that is seriously lacking in that department. we've got young talent in the safety position and it would be good for them to see him and why he is a pro bowler. pass on LT for many reasons. Yeen80
No and No. Sorry, but there is no value there. It doesnt fit our "rebuilding" plan
Spartacus87
Very true, Gregg Williams can make a mediocre safety pretty good (i.e. LaRon Landry). No.a Nick Saban or Gregg Williams defense > a Greg Blache defense Landry looks dumb in a bad defense. He was All American and played at a Pro Bowl level in a good defense. Pretty simple. Gregpeck99
Skins are at the bottom and rebuilding ... they are in "expansion team" mode ... they should go with youth and eschew the tired re-treaded vets ... that was the old Skins era ... its now a brand new ballgame. The Brave Little Toaster Oven
Sharper...he's a beast and will be for atleast 2 more years.
SkinsMaster88
No to LT. Sharper if only a 1 or 2 year deal, if only to allow Landry to move to SS (if we can't move him) and allow another young guy to become our eventual FS (like Kareem Moore if he can develop more). However, I don't think either should be priority targets. Sharper can fulfill a need as a safety good in coverage. I agree with others that we need to focus on youth though. We have a good set of young players in the secondary. A vet like Sharper might be nice short-term to help mentor.
LaRonDontLikeUgly
It's funny so many people think LT has nothing left.... He may have had a bad season, but the guy still scored 12 touchdowns. Portis hasn't done that since 2003. Say what you want- but LT has been riddled with nagging injuries the past few years, and if he is able to overcome them he should be a 1,000 yard back for the next 2 or 3 seasons in my opinion. I'm not saying I definitely want him wearing a Redskins jersey next season, but would I be disappointed if it came at the right price? Hell no. LaRonDontLikeUgly
Oh, and everybody who says "it's time to re-build with youth, screw the old guys" - that's fine and dandy, but you can re-build with veterans also. In fact, you have to. Just don't trade future picks or sign them to mega-contracts....
ncr2h
I would never say no to a guy who single-handedly forces more turnovers than our entire team. Sadly, that's only a slight exaggeration. Sharper had more defensive TDs in 2009 than our team has had since, I think 2006. Even if he is on his last legs, he has better instincts than anyone on our defense including Fletcher. We could use a guy like him.
jthor99
There so many reasons NOT to sign LT. First off, if Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan have a vision for this organization I can't see how signing a 30 year old, declining RB can be a page in the blueprint. Is LT honestly any better then Clinton Portis? I would actually argue that, if healthy, Clinton provides a better option for two reasons. One, he has been in Shanahan schemes before. He understands it, and how it operates. He also is a better pass blocking back then LT. There is a reason why San Diego would limit LT on 3rd downs the past few years. Also, on the whole Shanny has proven consistantly that his system favors virtually any RB. I would actually point out that value in one particular RB in his particular system isn't really necessary. As long as they build and coach this offensive line correctly, I believe the running game will flouish. Grabbing a big name like LT would in my opinion go right against what ultimatley they are trying to build in the big picture.
C26 Run
Neither. We need to get younger at RB. LT is a great back but we need someone to be here for at least another 5-7 seasons. Horton will be back. This team isn't weak at Safety. The problem was that LL was playing out of position (coaches decision). :helmet:
skins2victory
I still think Sharper is a stud, if the coaches think he would work good in our system then im all for it.
