Uno Mas
Doak Walker? haha Its Doc, i believe.. Might want to correct that, in order to ensure the more appropriate response' and discussion that you're seeking. Ill give it up to you, I saw you call yourself out in the "dumbest thing you've heard a fan say", but actually reading this was pretty funny. O well, you live and learn. golota
I dont care what his 40 time is because I've seen him play and he isnt that fast. He runs people over...that's his game. He's not going to seperate from anybody with pure speed. There are very few 237 pound RBs that are much faster.

Somebody said he ran a 4.43...that sounds like bull to me. If he did, he certainly does not play that fast. Just another Brandon Jacobs. Bruiser backs dont last long anymore. Commander Adama
Ohhh crap.. so it wasnt a type-o then..I stand corrected. My apologies. Good thing I wasn't an ass about it, huh? haha I like how you owned up to it. People need to stop taking themselves too seriously and learn to laugh at the things we do, instead of beating ourselves over it. Pssst I thought it was Doc for a second there too

Bettis lasted 13 years or so. Riggo played until he was 35. Jamal Lewis played 9 or 10 years. It depends on how they protect themselves when they run. Small guys get hurt too. MOst of them hate running between the tackles.

No running backs last long though. The average life span for a RB is like 3 years or something. A good big back life span is no different than a small back, there just aren't as many big athletic guys. Toby is one, and I would love to have him on our team. Imagine having a big bruiser like Toby, and a smaller speed back. Split the carries 50/50 and that would be a tough combination to prepare for. Anybody who has played defensive football can tell you it is not fun to tackle a guy as big and tough as Toby 15 times a game.
NAC386
Plus we can use him at times as a fullback, Hback, tight end (as if we need another one) he can line up all over the place with his size and athleticism. He has good hands too, he is just a talented athlete overall. I can definitely envision him being used a bruiser back, and moving to fullback on certain plays to either block or go for short passes. What about goaline and short yardage? Are we really going to keep using Betts or Portis? Are we going to rely on Sellers to get out in the open field and make blocks as a 30something year old 280 pound guy?? Haven't you seen footballs bounce of Sellers hands?? I'm not saying this kid is the next Riggins, but he definitely has his place in the NFL, and I think his place is worth a 3rd round pick, or even a late 2nd because he can do several different things. It's not a big splash pick, he is not flashy, but he is an awesome guy to have on your team.

He's played at a high level for like 7 seasons. When a RB takes a constant pounding, it's almost impossible to keep it going long. Look at how Brandon Jacobs dropped off this year. It would be a nice combination, dont get me wrong, but I just think the pick could be used better to address a more important need. It's not like Gerhart is very rare. Some people are overating his athleticism. He's just like LeGarette Blount without the anger issue(as far I currently know).
Destino
Is the league, and America, ready for a white premier back in the NFL? I think someone needs to tell CNN to put a poll up.
[[ghost]]
I would love to have him here if he can demonstrate NFL speed. He's a workload kind of back, and considering our desire to change the culture at Redskin Park, he wouldn't be a bad pick. My only question is what if ShanahAllen draft Clausen/Bradford at #4 and Gerhart with the 2nd, leaving us with no OL picks in the first three rounds. Just like Jerome Bettis is a special guy, and he lasted longer than LT being a big power back. LeGarette Blount is a big power guy, but he didn't have production like Gerhart and his character isn't nearly as dependable as Gerharts. Gerhart seems like he'll work hard his entire career, he seems like a quality guy. I don't know, I know we have other needs, but at the right value he would be a great guy to have on our team. Also, as a side note, he is in some ways comparable to Blount, and Blount has been said to run around a 4.5 or 4.6. So how come people are calling Toby Gerhart a fullback, but Blount a RB? hmmmm........
Mr. Sinister
Is the league, and America, ready for a white premier back in the NFL? I think someone needs to tell CNN to put a poll up. I don't see how the country needs to be prepped for a "premier" white running back. He is'nt even in the league yet, so he is'nt "premier" until he shows it on the NFL playing field. If you can play you can play, simple as that. And it's not like there has'nt been great RB's who were white. Alstott, Rathman, Riggo, Hornung, Rocky Bleier, the list goes on and on. Beanie Wells, is about the same size, ran a disappointing 4.59 at the combine but was still taken in the first round. No talk of him being a FB or not having enough speed, etc. Seems like folks are picking on Toby a bit. "Footballs Future" has Gerhart ranked 9th among RBs BELOW Blount who really played one year of college FB and certainly has some character concerns. Gerhart is somehow a 3rd round guy despite his production, etc.
