"We want to evaluate our players first," Allen said in a recent phone interview. "Our coaches are doing a great job of going back and watching tape of our players. And not just watching the tape from the 2009 season but every snap a player has played with the Washington Redskins.

"And that evaluation process is ongoing. We want to get that completed before March 1. And we've taken a lot of steps to make sure our coaches have the ability to continue to evaluate the current Redskins in free time at the combine."

On March 15, the Redskins will begin their offseason conditioning program at Redskins Park. Allen and Shanahan expect positive results.

"We've blended a lot of new ideas and our focus is really on March 15," Allen said. "Let's get our players and put them in the best possible position to be successful."

:D

EDIT: More quotes from Mr. Allen

http://www.csnwashington.com/pages/landing_redskins/?blockID=184039&feedID=2993

“We’re going to move Redskins Park to Indianapolis for a week,” Allen said.
:D
When asked if the team would draft for need or take the best player available, Allen indicated that they would favor the latter.

“We’re going to go for the best Redskins player. I know that sounds a bit clichéd, but it’s the direction we’re going to go,” he said.

Needs can be fluid, Allen said. “You don’t necessarily know what your needs are when the draft comes. You’re always one injury away from being in need. We’re going to stack our board based on how they are going to fit into the schemes we’re going to run on offense and defense, and then make the determinations.”

the total opposite of the Vinny years with our own players being valued least.

Absolutely! This has the feel of the beginning of a fine-tuned organization. Can't wait to see how things actually pan out. With the potential of trades to aquire more draft picks, supplementing the roster with cheap FA's and what will be one on the top end of the draft will make this an exciting off season. :)

Reviewing game tape of every player before making a move in the off-season??? Are you guys pulling my leg? Is it April Fool's early? I just can't believe it...almost too good to be true. I keep having this nightmare that Bruce Allen is speaking at a press conference, pauses a moment, then proceeds to remove a mask and it is really Vinny Cerrato underneath. I wake up, curled in a fetal ball, sucking my thumb, mumbling make the bad man go away.

HMMMM the new front office seems to like the BPA and not really going after REACHED need guy.....so we could go D if one of those DT's or Berry falls....question does anyone really believe that the FO has a QB ranked higher than McCoy, Suh or Berry at the top of their big board????? Honest question.

Probably not, maybe we can trade down in that situation.

I'm not sure how necessary that is lol...who really cares how someone played for the Skins back in 2004? And do we have anyone on the roster (besides Samuels and Thomas) who played for the Skins even earlier than that? Smoot, maybe?...Can you imagine watching every stinkin' play of a Skins player for the last 11 years? lol :)

I cant wait to see who doesn't show up for the program!

It is a new coaching staff. I expect that most everyone will show up, as they did for Zorn after he was hired.

Really, the main difference between the current guys and the last guy who came in here fresh (Gibbs) is that these guys seem to be in here for the long term. Gibbs knew that there was an expiration date on his tenure and that if he wanted to win, he needed to get it done sooner rather than later. Most of his philosophy in acquiring players reflected that.

I'm sure they do this to monitor progress or regression. Also to monitor the player's tendancies. In order the change this thing around, the staff basically has to tear everything down and build it back up. And i'm certain it starts by knowing these players inside and out.

I think Allen said the politically correct answers, over and over, as they all do, every singe time. We have no more and no less than we did, IMO. When draft day comes and free agency is over, then we can start evaluating. I think it is a little premature to start kneeling and worshiping this guy.

Agree, its very tough to know how successful this will be

The positive signs are of course that this does look like a professional front office operation now, playing its cards close to the vest.

The tone has changed, and that is good

bandaids and ducttape won't fix the deep wounds caused by the Synderatto years. It will be a slow process.

First we'll have surgery to determine what's good and what needs to be removed. Then we'll have stiches and a cast while we heal. Then its rehab to get our strength back in the muscles.

To me....without a lockout. That's 2 full NFL seasons and offseasons.

While what’s coming up at the combine is important, Allen said that the bulk of the decision making is based on what the prospect has done on the football field.

“The film, the playing history, is the most valuable tool in evaluations,” he said

Good to see this kinda mentality. No use in the coaching staff going ape over some combine stats, like us fans will probally do.
