To be fair he was behind Arian Foster until last year, and had knee injury earlier in his career at Tennessee. Hard to gain many yards when you don't get the carries.

he tore it up last season against quality opponents an against the SEC. Getting stronger as the season progressed.

I hear you bubba, and honestly I don't know anything about the guy. I don't think i've ever seen him play in a game situation (only espn highlights), and I haven't studied up on him enough to say whether he is a good pick up or not. My point was simply that the body of work that we do have to study (as you indicated, he was behind 1st string RB, and he was injured, whereby he didn't get many carries throughout his career), doesn't give us much to look at. I guess its sorta like the Devin Thomas scenario. What if it was just a good year, and he ends up being an average RB at best, all the while we still have other pressing needs going unaddressed.

Hardesty is a good prospect, but it always worrisome when you have knee surgeries so early into your career, which is why he might be available in the fourth or fifth rd.

Yea I agree with almost everything you said, but I dont think we should take a QB in round 1 or 2.. I think we can find a good QB for this system in the 4th round or 5th, (Dan Lefevour, John Skelton or maybe Matt Nichols.) rather take a chance with one of them, then wasting a first on bradford or clausen..

The QBs that are in that 2nd round group I'm not a big fan of, Pike, McCoy and Tebow. So if we decided to pass on guys like Bradford or Clausen, I'd be fine with using a late round pick on a couple of the guys you mentioned.

I like Lefevour, I just don't know if he'll last to the 4th (if we do get a 3rd rounder he'd be a great pick in that area, imo), nor do I think he'd be worth a high 2nd, we'll see how he performs at the combine, I could see him shooting up draft charts with a good performance. I've heard Skelton's name thrown around, and just looked up his highlight vid and liked what I saw, he's got a strong arm, good size, can move, accurate and can throw on the run (reminds me a bit of Big Ben, whom I'm a big fan of). Obviously it was a highlight vid, but if he keeps showing positive at the combine and pro-days I'd be fine with him in one of the later rounds. Nichols much like Skelton I had to look him up, but what I saw I can't say I was terribly impressed with ... mechanically speaking. He seems to be accurate, but I noticed he holds the a bit ball low also tends to drop the ball down a little more before his throw (almost looks like a wind up motion but he seems to get the ball out quickly, so I'm not sure what to make of that), not sure about his arm-strength looks a bit suspect from what I saw. I guess we'll have to wait for the combine to see what happens with him.

Personally I'm a fan of Clausen because of what I got to see of him this past season (it seems NBC has a hard-on for Notre Dame so I saw quite of bit of them), he seems like the type of QB Shanahan would love to have.

Also, everyone keeps saying that we're changing to a zone blocking scheme, but i read in the BMW interview thread the other day where BMW indicated "he's comfortable in the ZB scheme, because that's primarily what we did all last year"

http://www.extremeskins.com/showpost.php?p=7307811&postcount=11

Maybe someone can clarify that for me?

I believe Buges mentioned this as well. I didn't notice it watching the games but I honestly wouldn't know what to look for anyway and like most fans my eye tends to follow the ball. Every coach adds their own personal touch to how they like things done but its good to know our guys have experience in the basic concepts since we won't be able to replace them all in one season.

Hardesty may rise fast with a solid combine/pro day. He may not just be a sleeper anymore and could go as high as the 3rd.

I dunno why he'd compare him to Portis though, Portis was more of a speed back early on. Portis is also faster no matter what I think. I think Hardesty could be good wherever he goes.

Some of us understand that the Skins do NOT have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. We have exactly 2 picks. That means we can't replace the offensive line with the draft, plus draft a nose tackle, plus get a QB, plus get another running back, etc etc.

Some of you really are just not being realistic in your predictions and thoughts. This team will not rebound and be a dominating force in just 12 short months. Its going to take TWO drafts and TWO free agency periods, but it will come. So sit back and get some sleep in that lounge chair, because you have a fairly long wait to fill your wish list.

HaHa, new to this site, but thanks, oh and I loved how you replied to this thread only to joke it and not really give any insight on the matter, the PS is amazing too.

:whoknows: There wasn't much to give insight to. You were watching TV and a scout threw out a name. Ok. Threadworthy? Not by itself. How about a link to a video of the segment or an article or stats/profiles of said players... Trying to help you here, really. :D Give us some meat to chew on!

I think he gave a fine amount of "meat" to give insight on. Explained what each person said about these players, and even put his opinion on top of it. Sure having the video would have been great, but the dude is new to the board, some constructive criticism would have been a bit more helpful than mocking his post. Plus it's the offseason, what else would you rather talk about? Jason Campbell/Sam Bradford/Jimmy Clausen and changing the uniform.

Manaconda, for future reference though, he is right, maybe giving a bit more info for those who aren't familiar with the players mentioned may be helpful. Even something as simple as their previous year stats, or links to Youtube highlights would help spark the conversation. You're on the right block though.

Rocky top you'll always be, home sweet home to me

good ol' Rocky Top, Rocky top Tennessee....... Rocky top Tennessee

I am with Bubba on this one. I have gone to nearly every Tennessee home game the past three years and Hardesty has been one of the few bright spots the past two years. This guy guy might be a sleeper in the draft but if you have seem him run you know he has got it.

Hardesty will improve his stock greatly at the combine... apparently he's a beast in the weight room and it shows.

For what it's worth, former UT coach Lane Kiffin said "I wish I had 85 of him" referring to the senior. You love hearing that from a head coach. (Even if it's Lane Kiffin.)

Hardesty had three pretty unsuccessful seasons with the Vols before his breakout senior year when they switched to a ZBS. He also ran with a ZBS in high school and feels very comfortable. Could be a great match here for us.

Man I wish we had that 3rd rd pick, so virtually every RB would be available to us in their designated position. Damn you Vinny!!! Oh and I like Matthews, but Jahvid Best is my guy

Yeah cause that Jarmon guy really has no potential. :silly:

That was one of Vinny's best moves, IMO. We got good value there. Besides Shanny in known to find the gems in the backfield later on. Let's fix the lines for now and then worry about the skill players.

If Hardesty is there in the late rounds, which I don't think he will be as he will show what he's got in the combine, then he would be a steal ala TD in Denver in the late rounds. Hardesty has everything you want in a RB, versatility, work ethic and patience. If he's there by round 4 then he will be a steal.

It is a forum, I cannot believe how seriously some people take this. Ultimately, we are stalkers that change the word to fan, which means fanatic (more or less stalker). Why don't we just rant and enjoy the fact there are others as obsessed as we are to share our obsession with?

Manaconda: Just do your thing, forget the hate, it is everywhere and is not going to go away. I for one, loved the idea of debating someone who has never or rarely has been mentioned (Matthews).

Here is another really good running back that will be a late round pick and a guy not too many people hear about. Auburn's Ben Tate 5-11 218 lbs
