Both Star Wars and Indiana Jones are so instantly recognizeable. I'd imagine it would have to be one of them. Heck, to this day half the college bands in the country play the Imperial March at football games.

Agreed as to their influence, popularity and instant recognizability, but i think Jaws and E.T. are right up there with them...Jaws especially. Hard to vote for just one of them, but if i had to, i'd guess Star Wars would get the slight nod.

Among his lesser known film scores, I think the theme he did for Jurassic Park is extrodinarily beautiful and somewhat underappreciated.

I voted other for just this reason. Jurassic Park. It may not be as popular or well known, but when it first plays as they're flying over the island in the helicopter...that's a goosebump moment. Very beautiful.

We played that in middle school orchestra. Great theme to what was the highest grossing movie ever at one point.

Crap, Jurassic Park was supposed to be an option.

Very close between Jaws, Close Encounters, and Star Wars. The music in both Jaws and Close Encounters are absolutely central to the effectiveness of the movie, but I ended up voting with Star Wars for the greater cultural impact... Lots of good stuff, though.

It's between Superman, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones for me. My test is how evocative they are of the film, and my problem is that all 3 are dead-on and iconic.

The flourish when Indy is running across the Submarine in Raiders of the Lost Arc vs. the lead-in where Clark Kent rips off his glasses and shirt vs. Darth Vader striding onto the Rebel ship...

I think I'm going to go with Superman, though... that intro is just awesome.

I gotta go with Superman. It used to be my ringtone.

When Bryan Singer was announced as the director of "Superman Returns" one of the 1st questions he was asked...would he be using the John Williams theme? And his response was he wouldn't have agreed to do the movie if he couldn't.

That theme is just iconic!

Course, there is also a lot of similarity. My 3 year old was listening to Indiana Jones and thought it was Star Wars.

My vote is for Star Wars, because you can listen to the score and recognize what scene is what simply from the music.
