Rotoworld: Small School Draft Prospects

Now, I know the debates for the past few months (and through April) figure to be regarding QB vs LT or Bradford vs Clausen, but the draft is much more than a first round selection.

For some reason, fans seem to focus extensively on the first round, where picks are more or less selected by the BPA approach; sometimes we forget that the true key to drafting is sifting through the dirt and finding gems in the later rounds.

While perusing rotoworld, I found this interesting article I figured I'd share with you. They list their 25 best small school prospects, along with a mini-scouting report and draft projection.

Hope you guys enjoy the read. Any stick out to you? I, myself, am pretty intrigued by LaMarcus Coker... and if I wasn't so confident we'd take a QB at 4, John Skelton certainly would be worth the gamble.

I'd take a look at both of the guys you mentioned as well. Coker was scary at UT before he got kicked out of school and Skelton seems to have a ton of upside.

Coker does sound intriguing. I'll check him out. Hopefully he got his stuff together now. Everyone makes mistakes hopefully he's learned from his.

O yeah our new head coach is the guy who drafted Maurice Clarett in the 3rd round.

I know it was a compensatory pick, but still It was Shanahan's brightest move

Man I hope we really take this guy:

North Dakota State RB Pat Paschall

D-IAA's leader in rushing yards per game last year, Paschall didn't realize his potential until being given NDSU's full-time backfield reins as a senior. Stuck in a committee during the '07 and '08 seasons, Paschall exploded for 1,397 yards on 207 carries (6.8 YPC) and 16 rushing touchdowns as well as a 15.5 yards-per-reception average in 2009. Paschall obviously doesn't have Chris Johnson's long speed, but resembles the Titans' 2,000-yard rusher with his dread-locked look, size (6'0/198), toughness between the tackles, and penchant for finishing runs. Paschall was also one of the stars at last month's East-West Shrine game and could pay off as a mid- to late-round pick with the ability to contribute as a No. 2 back and possible fill-in starter in the event of injury.

I've seen him play in person and the guy is legit.

Would love to Arthur Moats in the burgundy and gold! Watching him four four years he was an absolute beast.

Moats will get a look somewhere, even if only strictly as a pass rusher. His ceiling will be determined by how well he learns to play in space. I'd love to nab him in the later rounds and give him a chance to learn as we transition into a 3-4. Having seen both of them, he has as much talent as Sidbury from UR last year, just unfortunately not the defined position.

My favorite small school guy is:Cecil Shorts - Mount Union College, OH

Division 3 school prospect. I know everybody is saying we don't need a WR and that he is D3. Pierre Garson IND anybody?

Garson played at Mount Union and Shorts has surpassed many of Pierre's stats and after seeing both play, this kid is well ahead of Garson at this point in his career.

Shorts led the OAC in receiving yards with 1,736 and TD's with 27 total scores, while averaging 17.4 yards per catch and 115.5 receiving yards per game.

Not dogging Garcon but... his QB is Manning... I think our WRs Kelly Thomas & Mitchell would do well in their offense... just because of Manning

Marques Colston wasnt the best WR stat wise at his school, but he's the the star and the others are unheard of. You might have a point, especially if those stats are for 1 season, but idk.

That's one year. And I understand Manning is the QB there (in IND) but this kid is just an athlete. His potential is tremendous. If we are looking for a play making slot receiver to go with our two big guys on the outside I think he is our man. Besides were talking late round or hopefully FA. He reminds me of Jerry Rice in college. (No, I am not saying he will be Rice) But he embarrassed the competition at his level in college similar to Rice.

Is he fast?

Well he's not slow. I wish I had a 40 yard dash time to give you but I couldn't find one. His biggest asset is his elusiveness and quickness. He qualified for the indoor track championships in D3 with a 7.57 - 55 meter hurdles.

Here is a highlight tape off you tube to see what he looks like.

Like I said if we to spend a late round pick or FA addition. And it's not like I'm a homer on this. I went to a rival College. This kid owned the field when he was on it.
