McD5
Pretty sweet! Great job guys! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100216/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/us_afghanistan_taliban Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, described as the No. 2 behind Taliban founder and Osama bin Laden associate Mullah Muhammad Omar, has been in Pakistan's custody for several days, the newspaper reported on its Web site late Monday. It quoted U.S. government officials who spoke on condition of anonymity. If confirmed, Baradar's arrest would be a major setback for the Taliban. He may also have information on the whereabouts of Omar and bin Laden. Click link for more.

Mad Mike
Great news. I found more info here... http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/16/world/asia/16intel.html?src=twt&twt=nytimes Details of the raid remain murky, but officials said that it had been carried out by Pakistan’s military spy agency, the Directorate for Inter-Services Intelligence, or ISI, and that C.I.A. operatives had accompanied the Pakistanis. The New York Times learned of the operation on Thursday, but delayed reporting it at the request of White House officials, who contended that making it public would end a hugely successful intelligence-gathering effort. The officials said that the group’s leaders had been unaware of Mullah Baradar’s capture and that if it became public they might cover their tracks and become more careful about communicating with each other. The Times is publishing the news now because White House officials acknowledged that the capture of Mullah Baradar was becoming widely known in the region. herrmag
America, **** YEAH!errr, should I say good job Pakistan! True. Good job Pakistan. But we never look back on our own politicians. Way to keep the pressure on Paki OBAMA. He's done a great job of sticking with intelligence, rather than worrying about being re-elected.

SkinsHokieFan
Excellent Finding ANYONE in Karachi is literally the needle in a haystack scenario. JimboDaMan
can we leave politics out of this for onceGood luck with that one. I'm shocked we almost got through 10 posts before the nattering started. This is great news. In that region you always have to wonder what's going on behind the scenes, but it sounds like real cooperation between US and Pakistan and a great operation. This guy is known as a brilliant leader and taking him out is a terrific win for the good guys.

DCBnG21
Great news and good on the NY Times for holding it. Absolutely love the fact that Pakistan had this guy for 2-3 days before the organization apparently knew about it. I imagine that those were the worst 2-3 days of this guy's life. Hopefully they were able to extract a bunch of useable intel from him.

JMS
Good stuff there! What kills me is I've never heard of this guy. What kills me the last "high ranking Al Quada" leader who we captured; turned out to be Bin Laudin's driver. Salim Ahmed Hamdan got heald for eight years in Gitmo before we released him, cause he needed a $200 a week job to support his familiy. I am highly suspect of anybody we caputure and claim he's a top dog. I don't know what scares me more, the thought that our intelligence agencies are trying to mislead the American people or the idea the intelligence agencies actually believe they've press releases over the last seven years. If this guy is a high level guy, great news. But like I said, I've never heard of him before today.
zoony
Is it just me or does it seem like every other week we capture the top guy? That said, I'm glad he's in custody. Top guy or not, he's definitely better off behind bars.

Corcaigh
Is it just me or does it seem like every other week we capture the top guy? I'm not sure how meaningful the label is of #2 Al Qaeda guy, but he has been described as commanding the Taliban in Afghanistan for the past 4 years.
