Possible Trade with Packers on Draft Day?

I totally get the sentiment but I am curious what is your plan for the QB. I understand the whole OL v QB debate but I would like to hear what everyone's plan for the Qb would be if we trade down or take a tackle. There really isn't any free agent Qb out there to speak of outside of Michael Vick and I can't believe anyone would actually advocate a rebuilding project with Michael Vick at the Helm.

If your answer is Jason Campbell that's totally fine. I am curious about whether this is a "Jason is the guy" sentiment or a "I don't care who the QB is we need lineman" argument because they are quite different in my opinion.

Colt is the guy... Colt Brennan that is. :)

This also came across the sports wire recently... Campbell still sucks.

My personal feeling on this is JC is worth keeping as a starter. In the right system he can be highly successful, and with an improved line that would allow for more play action 7 step drops for the intermediate range throws at which he excels. If he is gone, then my feeling is that we would have to draft a QB. The best value if you are not sold on Bradford (which I am not) can be found in our high second round pick. Many people are saying Jimmy Clausen will still be around, also Colt McCoy.

So short version, I guess I fall into the category of wanting to upgrade the other positions first. There is no way we can fully upgrade our line in one year, but if we get 3 legitimate starters this year plus Dockery then at least we will have an average NFL line for a change.

I guess I just really dont want to see Stephon Heyer play for us next year.

Campbell=Mediocre

Line=Terrible

The line does suck no doubt about it, but 1 thing that really hurts the most about campell is thathe consistantly misses the wide open reciever. Time and time again.

Also, his fade passes in the end zne stink. I'm all for keeping him though why because why not? If we can't trade him to get something what other resort is there? Nothing really....

How can he be highly successful in the right system, but only mediocre right now? Kinda seems like he may be a successful mediocre, but mediocre none-the-less.

Well since my thread got hijacked into a JC debate let me throw in my two cents.

I brought up this trade idea as a backup plan if Bradford is taken by the rams. If he's still there I hope we draft him. At worst I see him as a Chad Pennington / Trent Dilfer type player that could win with talent around him. At best I do see him as Peyton Manning / Drew Brees level. The kid is smart, accurate and most importantly for shanahan's system can throw on a rollout and hits his receivers so that they can run after the catch.

Guys what is the main goal of an NFL team on day one of training camp? TO WIN THE SUPERBOWL. Winning isn't everything its the only thing. When it comes down to it we had the same season as the Dallas Cowboys or for that matter the Indianapolis Colts.

To those that support JC I constantly hear how he can be a GOOD quarterback in the right system or with a line. I have yet to hear anyone on this board or any of the experts in print or on tv say he can be GREAT. He's not a franchise guy and never will be. I personally think he is a good NFL quarterback. But he's not GREAT. And as a lifelong redskins fan I don't want to settle.

If you look at guys like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Ben Rothlesburger, Kurt Warner, even Vince Young for that matter. The common thing they all share is that they've won from Day 1.

(sidenote for this arguement I consider Day 1 to actually be season 2 because the NFL does have a learning curve and up until recently with Rothlesburger, Ryan, Flacco, and Sanchez, not many rookie qb's did well first out the gates)

Peyton excelled in year two. Tom Brady when given the chance stepped up and won a Superbowl. Drew brees outplayed Rivers who was set to replace him in San Diego then went to a deprived saints team and won there. Rothlesburger came in as a rookie and managed games and racked up W's. Kurt Warner was tom brady before brady. He stepped up when given his chance and won a Superbowl. Even vince young rack's up win's somehow, despite poor stats.

My point being, winners are winners. Despite the circumstances they find a way to prevail and don't have excuses when they don't. And that just isnt' Jason. He is a GOOD NFL quarterback who has been dealt a poor hand so far. But nobody's gone out on the limb to call him great.

And until you have found your franchise QB that has to be your focus each year. And rarely are teams given a chance to pick the best qb in the draft in any given year. Does bradford have his flaws, yes. But I think they are greatly exaggerated and his pro's greatly outweigh his cons.

If you feel differently please speak up and tell me you think JC can win us a Superbowl any given year competing with a Peyton, Brady, Rothlesburger, Brees, etc. Until then please stop saying we don't need a QB because Jason can be GOOD. You can have your good, i want Greatness.

Also, his fade passes in the end zone stink.

I wouldn't put the end zone fade route failures on JC. If I had to pick someone, I would put them on Zorn or whoever decided to put Santana as the go-to receiver in fade route jump ball end zone passes. We have a 6'4 receiver and a 6'3 receiver, and we throw it to the 5'10 guy in the end zone? That's bad personnel moves, which the coaches are responsible for

IF this were to happen it would be our #4 pick and our 4th rounder for GB #23, 2nd round, 4th and 5th.

#23 overall(Packers 1st): Bruce Campbell, OT (Maryland) or

#37 overall(Redskins 2nd): Charles Brown, OT (USC)

#56 overall(Packers 2nd): Sergio Render, G (Virginia Tech)

My only concern is can Campbell avoid the injury bug, that scares me. I'm getting on the Charles Brown Bandwagon, if Bulaga slipped to that spot I would be really happy. What about Pouncey out of Florida. He could be an upgrade at the Center position.

The scenario with multiple players this year is a real possibility, but I would like to also consider taking a future draft pick in a trade down scenario. Next year's first is usually considered the same as this year's low second or high third, so consider the possibility where you give the Packer's your number 4 for their first and second this year and next year's first. The gamble, of course, is that the packers do really well and next year you have the 32nd pick. But the fact you have two first round picks next year gives you those quality picks where you can improve OLine and/or another position of need. Plus, you end up with two picks this year, albeit somewhat reduced in talent, that can be used to help the OL NOW.

That should make up for the point differential. With so many needs after the Snyderrato years, it has some advantages. You have three picks in the first two rounds this year to make up for the 5 OL that should be replaced and next year, you have two first round picks. Coupled with a couple of FA moves that bring in one or two OL from FA, you might have an average OL for next year.

Tha is what alot of us are hoping for. We need minimum 3 new starters on the O-line, and upgrading all 5 would be a dream. I'd trade down in a heartbeat.

I dont think 4 new starters is going to be necessary or even wanted by the current coaching staff. Dockery is going to stay, and Levi Jones is certainly good enough to stay because he was pretty solid over those final few weeks although Campbell's performance and the breakdowns on the right side of the line and the middle of the line diminish Jones and Dockery's performance. Its never good to lump EVERYBODY in together which is what you are doing. The left side of the line was pretty good most of the year, including the first game of the year when Samuels was playing and yet Osi Umeniyora stripped Campbell from the ball and scored a TD. That wasn't Samuels fault because Campbell does not know how to step up in the pocket or shift away from a pass rush. The Skins need a RIGHT tackle for sure. And a solid backup guard with that 2nd round pick would be great. But I think Mike Williams will be a fine guard having been given a whole year to get back into football shape and this spring he will just be working out and learning and not just dieting.

If "we" (I think you mean if the Skins, unless you are part of the organization...never understood it when people would say "we" when they aren't players/coaches/FO on the team) choose to start him right away look to deal JC to the Rams or Bills and keep Colt as the #2, if he's going to sit first let JC/Colt battle for the starting spot.

If "we" pass on Bradford and pass on a QB in general, its open competition between Brennan and JC with a better surrounding cast.

Funny thing is it's been two off-seasons now and Colt still hasn't even managed to unseat TC as the #2. I know a lot of the fans on here think he's the next big thing, but he's been very inconsistent and can't manage to beat out a guy who's nearly filing for social security with Brett Favre.

That being said, why can't anyone seem to wrap their heads around the fact that if JC isn't here this season, and there is a rookie QB on the roster, that the opening day lineup might very well show TC as the starting QB. Last time I checked he's still the backup QB for the Skins.

I'm a Hokie fan and I really like Render and want him in a Skins uniform, but I think the 2nd round is a little early for him. I think he may still be available in the early 4th round, or if the Skins can trade back into the 3rd round somewhere, grab him there.
