Of course its the cops fault for these guys to break the law.

They thew objects at vehicles and got caught, they deserve it.

It will be lowered in court. It's just the terminology as to how a missile is defined(to broad imho). The law does need to be re-written.

Latin missilis, from mittere to throw, send

Date: 1611

1 : capable of being thrown or projected to strike a distant object

2 : adapted for throwing or hurling missiles

I could throw a cotton ball at someone and be charged the same thing.

It would be the law and the prosecutor at fault in this case. I strongly doubt that when that law was written they intended it to be used on college students and snowballs.

Pretty sure I said the law needs to be re-written. Even so, what they did is against the law. The big issue is an occupied vehicle, if it was moving just the act of throwing something can cause the driver to flinch and possibly cause an accident. Bigger picture than just throwing a snowball.

What does being a college student have to do with the law?

It says they threw snowshovels full of snow onto the windshields of a snow plow and an undercover cop car. Not smart at all, but a felony charge is serious overkill.

One of the kids is a point guard on the JMU basketball team.

Edit: And Navy Dave, you forgot to work "liberal" into your post. You're slipping. But way to slur a whole generation of young people.

I think he may actually slur the younger generation more often than he does liberals these days.

Young people throwing snowballs was the image I was trying to paint. This is the kind of thing that should result in a fine or some community service with a minor ding on your record in the form of a misdemeanor. Instead they are facing the loss of "inalienable rights" for throwing snowballs... that's just absurd.

The "felony" charge should be reserved for THE MOST SERIOUS of all possible infractions. Violent crimes and serious criminal activity... not youthful mischief.

There's a world of difference between a snowball and a shovelfull on multiple windshields. If it indeed was the latter, felony charges are appropriate. They are lucky no one was seriously injured or killed.

Even if the snowballs were missiles under Virginia law, the prosecutor needs to be canned. Someone that charges kids with felonies for throwing snowballs lacks discretion and common sense. The law is fine; it's the prosecutor that is a total dip ****.

They you would be the first person crying if they threw a snowball at a car, caused to driver to swerve and hit a pedestrian. I don't have any issues with this, don't throw stuff at moving cars.

There might not be a lesser charge, and yes, it is absurd, but in court it will be most likely dropped to a lesser charge.

It is a charge, not a conviction.

Besides they are inocent unti proven otherwise right? hehehe
