Mickalino
Well, that is changing, and it SHOULD change. It's a very insensitive word. But you can't fire someone for not being ahead of the curve on the change as it comes along. That's nuts. That's a good point, because, as bad as the N word is, it was not a terribly long time ago, that it wasn't considered nearly as unacceptable as it is today. That doesn't make it less offensive tho, because it once was non-offensive, or not AS offensive.
Madison Redskin
What he said was wrong, and he should apologize. Unfortunately, that word is thrown around pretty carelessly. isle-hawg
How is it not as bad? Isn't the N word, no matter how it's used offensive, to an entire race of people. While being mentally disabled is not a race of people, they are a group of people that are categorized. They even have their own associations and non profits similar to some minority groups. Have you ever heard of Association for Retarded Citizens? They changed their name because the word retard is offensive to many. Would you want everything you ever said in private or to a select group made public? I know I wouldn't because some things would be taken out of context and or hurt someone unintentionally or gotten me in trouble for ****ing about a former boss. If this standard was imposed on everyone, how many of us would have jobs?

HRNY4ZRNY
So lets just live in a nitpicking country. Lets write words that we cannot say and be punished for using them. If you are hurt by someone using a word that was not directed at you I would say you might have problems. What words should we start abolishing? Because Retards hurts some of you people... But since you are not Native Americans it is ok to use the word "Redskins" So if something hurts you it is unacceptable if it hurts a small group than it is fine. Got it! jnhay
I can see your point regarding that, but I still firmly believe that the offense she felt was real. Just like when David Letterman joked about molesting her daughter.

HRNY4ZRNY
What a hack. Leave it to Palin to try to wring the smallest bit of attention out of a colloquial term used behind closed door by someone on the other side of the aisle. Sure, it's offensive to some people, and for good reason, but the difference between someone who is racist or sexist or anti-retarded (?) isn't whether or not they use words that are sometimes offensive to those groups; it's the intent behind those words, and the venue, or usually the lack of consideration for the venue, that makes using them wrong. I don't think Emanuel hates retarded people, and I don't think he would have said it if he knew someone who heard it would be rightly offended. It's like saying something is "gay." No, I don't think that thing is actually homosexual, and no, I wouldn't call something gay in a pejorative manner if in the company of a gay person, because I wouldn't want to hurt their feelings. These are just a couple of examples of colloquial connotations that have picked up steam. It's just a goddamned word. Palin is a retard for politicizing it. Very well said. That doesn't make it less offensive tho, because it once was non-offensive, or not AS offensive. Right. And that is why I didn't get angry at my 93 year old grandfather when he used the N-word to describe a black guy as I did when I saw a 20 year old frat boy yelled it at a black guy he was angry at. My grandfather simply reflected his age, while the frat boy demonstrated genuine race hatred. Retard is just now moving out of the realm of acceptable words, and that is a good thing. Rahm needs to get up to speed.
HRNY4ZRNY
I guess we live in a country that has to apologize. Tiger should apologize Mcguire should apologize Guy that says retard should apologize Instead of apologizing to people who shouldnt be offended you let them know that you did not mean it in the way you took and you need to look in a mirror and figure out why it hurt you so bad. HRNY4ZRNY
I guess as you grow older you get more sensitive to words. If Palin didnt make a huge deal about it half the people "hurt" by the comment wouldnt have even heard it.

Corcaigh
Maybe we should care about bigger issues than a word a simple word. Let all freak out about 1 guy saying a word. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's "death panel" so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their "level of productivity in society," whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil. Said by someone who really cares about polite, rational, public discourse.
GoSkins561
Let's say Rahm called her a F (gay word), would the gay population be mad about it? HRNY4ZRNY
"This GUY" you keep mentioning is The White House Chief of Staff, this comment wasn't made by some random college grad that was picked to work in the White House. You have a belief that the people that run our country are mystical and wonderful people that always make the right decisions. They always say the right things they control their anger perfectly. The people in the White House have greater standards than most people but they do slip up and they are people just like us. Just because you are more educated doesn't mean you are without flaws, temptations. Everyone makes mistakes. Again it is just a word. Obama walks up to him and says " Hey man we can't make this mistake again, this country is to sensitive." He says "Your right boss, wont happen again." Problem solved. Palin is using this to get spotlight. Is she outraged? Yes Problem is why wasnt she outraged when Republicans were calling Obama a terrorist. That is pretty offensive. But people only care about themselves and since she has a family member that is disabled she has a knee jerk reaction.
HRNY4ZRNY
Palin has officially gone full retard. LoL I guess Im not educated or sensible enough not to laugh at this. But Im around disabled kids all the time and some of them are the most wonderful people I have ever met. How could I not be offended by this? I would pretty much do anything for those kids. #1 words dont hurt me like they hurt some people #2 The word wasnt aimed at them and really has nothing to do with them.
