Obama staffer Rahm Emanuel's penchant for profanity has drawn the ire of Sarah Palin.

The former Alaska governor is demanding that the President fire his White House chief of Staff for remarks she says were disparaging of the disabled.

In a strategy session between White House aides and progressive groups, Emanuel called a plan to air attack ads against fellow Democrats opposed to health-care legislation 'f----ing retarded.' The remarks were reported in the Wall Street Journal.

Palin slammed the comments, saying they were as outrageous as a public figure using the N-word in a screed posted on Facebook. Palin's youngest son, Trig, was born with Downs syndrome.

"Yes, Rahm is known for his caustic, crude references about those with whom he disagrees, but his recent tirade against participants in a strategy session was such a strong slap in many American faces that our president is doing himself a disservice by seeming to condone Rahm’s recent sick and offensive tactic," she wrote.

"Just as we’d be appalled if any public figure of Rahm’s stature ever used the "N-word" or other such inappropriate language, Rahm’s slur on all God’s children with cognitive and developmental disabilities – and the people who love them – is unacceptable, and it’s heartbreaking."

Palin went on to demand Obama respond to the numerous condemnations of Emanuel's remarks by advocates for the disabled.

The 2008 GOP vice-presidential candidate is no stranger to whipping up a brouhaha on Facebook. Last summer in a Facebook post she invoked her son in slamming Obama's health care plan.

"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care," Palin wrote. "Such a system is downright evil."

This whole thing is retarded. I am sick and tired of everyone getting offended over words. Did he talk about mentally handicapped people? No! Was his comment a bit over the top? Of course it was but it is the same as saying the people doing this are a holes. I dont think any specially abled people thought he was making fun of them. But the outrage would have been the same coming the other way. They are all retarded on both sides!

At this point in the Levi vs. Sarah soap opera, I'd take anything Levi says about Sarah, with about as much weight as a National Enquirer story.
At this point, I'd say both of them should just be put into a rocket and shot towards the sun. They both have zero credibility on anything.

Bull****. She doesn't care about what's right. She's only interested in scoring political points ... "Death panels" for ****s sake.

As they say, even a broken clock is right twice a day. I would imagine she was foaming at the mouth when she heard it, but she's still right.

The "fired" part is definitely over the top, I don't agree with her in that respect.

This.

Emanuel is known for being pretty rough with his words, and used a dumb phrase in a meeting behind closed doors. He didn't go on TV or issue a statement calling anybody "retarded."

Palin probably heard similar, if not worse things, being spoken during the presidential campaign. This just gives her a chance to speak out and get her name in the headlines again.

What Rahm did was dumb, but nobody should realistically expect anything to come of it except an apology.

More pseudo outrage from the Right.

That's exactly what I say to my friend Bekki when she gets upset from people calling others "retarded", while her mentally handicapped kid sits in a home.

I've actually been trying really hard to stop using the terms "moron, retard and gay", because they are really offensive to people, for no good reason.

I'd say, in this instance, you at least give her the benefit of the doubt, considering she has a handicapped child.

Who are you to say that she should not be offended, when it is highly reasonable and very possible ?

Just because you disagree with everything else she says, does that mean you can automatically question her motives every time, even at the risk of being insensitive toward a handicapped child and his Mom ?

Does anyone here on ES have a kid with disabilities ?

I'd like to hear your opinions, on how you'd respond, if you heard this.

Sarrah's right about this, but she's also over the top.

Perhaps you're right and shes riding it a bit, but there was a ton of jokes going around about her kid and I'm sure that has to get to you after a while.

It's not really a joke, when your kid is handicapped. Unless of course you're a bit of an ass like I am and make those jokes, despite having a retarded uncle.

I agree. I think I am generally sensitive to the topic as a special educator. I just think that words ought to be used carefully, but not hidden from. More, genuine offense is laudable and needs to be taken into account. Phony offense for gain is something that is worse than a mistake.

My guess is that Sarrah's outrage falls somewhere in the middle of that spectrum. I think she felt a moment of genuine offense, but also figured it was something she could capitalize on.

Sarah Palin: White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel should be fired for 'f----ing retarded' comment

Sarah Palin is a media whore.

I'm sorry, that was probably offensive to God's children who sell themselves on the street, and the people who love them. I apologize.

But seriously, folks...I understand her being upset about it. I do. But calling it a "sick and offensive tactic" akin to the N word? Uhm, no. It's just not. Sorry.
