NoleSkin21
Yes, the fun will come when you put in the work to succeed, and we start winning and being competitive! But Portis has shown he is not willing to do that.
MWCREDSKINS
Fine Clinton, but put in the practice to show us you aren't done. He's just like TO a walking time bomb ready to explode with negativity when things go sour and that's not what the Washington Redskins need

Koolblue13
I would love to see Portis turn it around and really get back to the level he used to play at, before last season. 2009 was hard on everybody, it was a lost season. When you come into it with nagging injuries, it's got to make it hard to compete.
NoleSkin21
When you are done...you are done! Much like LT. As hard as he worked in the off season and still couldn't stay healthy or turn it around. Portis doesn't work hard, and wasn't half the back LT was in the first place. If he does come back, I guarantee 800 yards or less.
RedskinInExile
It did kinda look like a lot of his problems were mental last year-- like he just didn't care if he broke any tackles. But that begs the question: do we really need a work-adverse head-case around that'll take a dive at the first sign of trouble?

Many people in all occupations experience professional frustrations, hard times, and even disaster. How that affects what you as an individual bring to the table to do your job the best you can during those times is usually viewed as a reflection of your character. See London Fletcher. I have posted for some time how hard it's been to go from a huge CP booster (even supporting the controversial trade from Day One) and fan who at first loved his whacky characters, to questioning his work ethic and some of his other personal example-setting behaviors and influences as it translated to working against the team, and his evolving into a Lavar-like source of constant media distractocrap to the detriment of all. Unfortunately, what stood out immediately to me here was his openly stating how he got so fed up he "just fell back."

ntotoro
Unfortunately, what stood out immediately to me here was his openly stating how he got so fed up he "just fell back." I caught on that line pretty quickly, also. That, to me, doesn't sound like a guy who will do what it takes to get in-shape for TC when the chips are down. He can't fall back on natural ability anymore.
AirMayo21
Yea I see little to no use in this lowlife anymore, bring in some rooks, have the shanny's teach em up, and we'll have an elite run game once again.

Braxford
That "fell back" question is what did it for me. You would never hear a professional come out and say that or let the falling back happen. There are tough times and you have to go through them, even if it gets you down. By stating this imo he just proves that he will only be emotionally invested in the team when things are good, not when they are bad. He has played well for the Skins but imo comments like that are not a good thing, because all will not be rosey next season, like Rome and Oline is not built in a day or even a season. Time to purge some cap space. I hope he proves me wrong but should the Skins even take that chance?

Llevron
After the way Zorn treated him during the Baltimore game in 2008, he had every right to phone it in. Respect goes both ways. I agree. You have to remember that these men are in most cases millionaires before they are 21. They are still boys just with alot of money playing a game for a living. I wouldn't expect him to have the mental resolve to put up with BS at work because he needs his paycheck to survive. I expect him to do exactly what he did. Im not saying its right, but I do understand where hes coming from. Why put up with all this mess when you know everything is going to change next year anyway? Zorn told CP to chip on the way to running routes out of one side of his mouth and told him to not chip out the other. Instead of taking the heat for his incompetence, Zorn threw CP under the bus in front of the media. This past season showed how worthless Zorn actually was. I have no doubt that a hof bound coach like Shanahan will get enormous production from CP and will motivate him in ways that makes him want to play, exactly the opposite of Zorn. I truly hope CP is genuine and practices as much as Shanny requires of him and can recapture the starting role after re-dedicating himself. My belief that it's possible is based on Gibbs being able to manage him and get him to produce coupled with the possibility Shanahan can get CP's trust as well. You guys are way too emotional about this. I mean, yeah, he pissed me off with his lack of practice and effort, but I wouldn't say he's a "loser." I think everyone deserves a 2nd chance. You mean the game he fumbled away a TD. Was pulled. Sellers took his place, and was more effective and all Clinton cared about was himself? And he "had every right to phone it in"? Really? He had every right to let down his team mates and fans because his feelings were hurt? Are you freekin insane?

Only a moron head coach would demotivate the NFC's leading rusher after 8 games the way Zorn did with CP. CP put this team on his back far more than he is credited for. The guy can produce and has produced. I am the first to jump on incompetence. CP deserves praise not the bs the fans give him. He is by far the best back to ever play for the Skins since I have been alive.
REDSKINZ-RIDEORDIE
kick rocks portis Exactly, if JC is our QB next year, he is going to need a RB that delivers more then just mediocre results, he is going to need a serious threat on the ground. CP is not that threat. We need a back that can take it to the house and not run out of steam after 20 steps....get rid of em....

That is NOT contradictory. It's football 101. Its a basic mental aspect that every back must deal with. You have to know in the heat of the action weather to stay in and block or chip and get open. Clinton was screwing up and Coach rightfully called him on it. And when Clinton's big contribution in that game was a fumble that gave the other team a TD, he needs to say "yes sir, I'll try harder next time" or STFU.
