Mickalino
No offense to anyone in particular, but I've been trying to endure this for a long time without saying anything, but I just can't hold it in, any longer. I am just absolutely nauseated by so many people having such trivial reasons for hatred towards Favre. It's much ado about nothing. Never in my life have I seen a man so hated and slandered for such ridiculous and unrealistic reasons. Everything he does is super-hyper-exaggerated. Have you ever changed your mind about a job ? Would it be acceptable if Favre showed up at your door, and ranted about your job change ? You'd tell him it's your decision and none of his business, right For one thing, compare his retirement changes to Michael Jordan, who retired and un-retired from the NBA the same amount of times as Favre, but he gets slack for that, because he's obviously a greater athlete, which is absolutely not a good enough reason to incomparably hate Favre so much more. Jordan retired from the NBA in 1993. He then un-retired in 1995. He then retired in 1999. Then un-retired 2001. Then retired in 2003. Same as Favre. Before you respond, I am aware you could point out many differences between the 2 players, but I think most or all of those differences are irrelevant. People seem to hate Favre primarily for the retire-unretire thing. Ridiculous. If the fact that he changed a career decision twice, bothers a person that much, then the person screaming about such a trivial thing as that, indicates that they are much more of a drama queen than Favre, with their super-sensitivity. We're talking about a career decision, that may very well, affect this health for the rest of his life. In his last game, he un-selfishly took 4 quarters of punishment, yet kept bouncing back. Does that sound like a self-centered person ? And shouldn't punishment on his body like that deserve some 2nd thoughts, and 2nd decisions on his career/retirement, considering he may be left with life-long brain damage from a subsequent hit, or some other permanent injury, if he decides to stay ? He has every right to delay his decision, or change his mind. He could change his mind 15 times, for all I care. Why should it affect how I see him as a person ? He is the last person I would put this label on. I can think of players left and right, who are far more of a pain, than this guy. Or do some hate him because of the media love ? So is that his fault ? Or maybe some hate him because of how he has arguably failed his team in a couple championship games. So, even tho he's got a Super Bowl ring, and tons of other accomplishments, he's considered a choker, which outweighs all his other accomplishments. People are so quick to label players chokers, when they deserve credit for getting their team THAT FAR, and further than players/teams that they like. Why are players/teams hated for losing big games, more than the ones who constantly lose, or don't even get to the big games ? And it doesn't matter how much you find to criticize his on-field mistakes or antics, he will still go down as one of the best QB's ever. That's what matters. So, he likes to make across-the-field, errant throws in bad judgment. Okay, that's not a good thing by itself. But to hate him like he's the devil. And to ignore his abundant records he's broken, and all his other incredible stats ? Secondly, as a human being, he is absolutely a good, decent person. And that's also what matters. How soon we forget that gutsy performance where he went out to play just days after his Dad died, and he dedicated the game to his Dad, and made it one of his best performances ever. Doesn't sound selfish to me. Pro Sports are so packed with selfish athletes, drama queens, attention whores, which are the names that are being tagged on Favre, when Favre doesn't even come close to those countless examples of players. In fact, he's quite the opposite. So, would someone with a voice of reason, please answer this : "What sensible reason could someone have for spewing prolonged, and deep, disgusting hatred, towards a guy who deserves none of it." Give the guy some slack !! End of rant.

MassSkinsFan
I didn't read the whole rant because I see people hating Favre mainly because they're looking for excuses to belittle someone who seems decent and successful. It's human nature and it's sad and ugly.
Predicto
Plus, Jordan was the best ever and the most clutch, so he gets to do whatever he wants. Favre is great, but he ain't no MJ.
TD_washingtonredskins
Yeah, I don't hate the guy. He used to be one of my favorite non-Redskin players. Now, I just think he's inconsiderate to the Packers, Packer fans, and the other teams he plays for. To be honest, those are the only parties he should concern himself with. I really hope he doesn't care what a football fan in DC thinks about him. If he wants to play, then play. If he wants to retire, then retire. LaxBuddy21
Deep and disgusting hatred? Naaah- I just think he's an attention whore...... Why though? Because the man is conflicted about whether to retire or not and keeps going back and forth? His body knows its probably time but his desire to play the game keeps pulling him back. The only people that should be upset are the Vikings and they seem to have no problem waiting for him to make his mind up.

MattFancy
It wouldn't be so bad if Favre didn't do this every offseason for the last 4 or 5 years. MJ didn't make a big deal about it in the media like Favre does. What really made me dislike Favre was that he made such a big deal about Javon Walker holding out for money on offseason. Yet Favre thinks its ok to hold a team hostage while he tried to decide if he is going to come back or not.
Mickalino
Plus, Jordan was the best ever and the most clutch, so he gets to do whatever he wants. Favre is great, but he ain't no MJ. I addressed that, tho. For one thing, Favre may not be the best NFL player ever, but he is arguably one of the best to play the game. Secondly, as I said in the OP, talent is really irrelevant to how we view them as a person.

Mickalino
MJ was "suspended" for gambling. He never "retired" Gambling.....something Favre never did....another thing that makes him a decent human being - the opposite of how he is portrayed. He even took it upon himself to check into a rehab for addiction to painkillers. Seriously, what has the guy done wrong, in a "truly wrong way" ? Lombardi's_kid_brother
Jordan's decisions were swift and decisive. And though he had syncophants in the media like Ahmad Rashad, it was at least undersrtandable why people were so caught up in him. He was - and still is to a large degree - bigger than the NBA. With Jordan you could say, "I would rather watch Jordan watch Vince Carter play basketball than watch Vince Carter play basketball" and it would be believable. I have been told for 20 years how great Favre is, how much I should enjoy watching Favre, how lucky I am to be on the same planet with Favre....and I still don't know why exactly. Why should I care about this man? Why should I watch him hold franchise after franchise hostage?
Lombardi's_kid_brother
Seriously, what has the guy done wrong, in a "truly wrong way" ? I think he is a white Terrell Owens - except Owens usually plays big in big games. (Think about it. Owens has never done anything wrong off the field except apparently self-harm. Owens thinks he is bigger than the teams he plays for. Owens holds teams' hostage to his whims. Owens acts like a great teammate but really isn't. The only difference I see is that Owens does not have Peter King, John Madden, Tom Jackson, etc sucking up to him each week).

On a scale of 1 to 100, Owens would be 90, and Favre would be a 20. You make the comparison, but in reality, there is no comparison.
zoony
When did Favre come anywhere close to disrespecting his teamates the way TO did? Calling his QB gay, fistfight in the eagles locker room, calling out mcnabb, reid, Romo sits to pee, garrett, etc.... I'm not seeing the comparison there- but I do agree they are both off-the-chart narcissists. .....
Skin'Em84
I've never been a fan of Favre. Even with his early days with the Packers I disliked him. I honestly don't know why...its just that with all the media hype my dislike is amplified cuz I'm tired of hearing about him.
MassSkinsFan
Maybe it's a case of people being irritated by hearing his praises sung by irritating people. I have missed out on liking several great bands (or had the start of my fandom delayed) because they were over-recommended by irritating scenester *******s. Could this be similar? Calling his QB gay, fistfight in the eagles locker room, calling out mcnabb, reid, Romo sits to pee, garrett, etc.... When it comes to calling teammates out, he is no Peyton "We had some big problems in our protection today" Manning. At the same time, Favre is universally beloved by a fawning media and Owens is universally despised. So, I think that there is probably a good amount of stuff that we don't know about Favre - particularly when it comes to Young Aaron Rodgers. It's not an exact parallel, but I think Favre truly believes he is the most important player in the NFL and the media lets him get away with it by treating his off-season debates like The Cuban Missle Crisis. Owens thought the same thing and got crucified for it.

Mickalino
So Favre is a white Terrell Owens ? Then tell me when was the last time Favre did anything remotely close to these numerously ridiculous things Owens did : **** While playing the Falcons Owens caught a long touchdown pass and proceeded to mimic the "Dirty Bird " dance with Owens performing a slashing of the throat gesture at the end of the dance. ***** Still, as a 49er, Terrell Owens showed off his excitement after his two touchdown catches by running from the endzone to midfield and celebrating on the Dallas Cowboys' famous star logo. **** Against the Seattle Seahawks, Owens pulled a Sharpie marker out of his sock to sign the football he caught to score a touchdown, and then gave the ball to his financial adviser, who was in the stands. ****** Against the Green Bay Packers, Owens scored a touchdown and ran to a row of cheerleaders beyond the endzone. He reached out and asked to borrow two pompoms from a 49ers cheerleader, which he then playfully shook, doing his own brief spontaneous routine before dropping them to the ground. ****** Once when the 49ers hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers, Owens wore a wristband with the words "The Answer" emblazoned on it. He caught a 61-yard touchdown pass from Tim Rattay, and pointed to the wristband to draw attention to it. After the game Owens was asked by a reporter the significance of the slogan on the wristband, and he replied: "Because I am The Answer." ***** In 2003, Owens scored a touchdown in a loss at Cincinnati, ran to a snowpile at the edge of the field, and threw snow at the fans. ***** Owens was cut by 2 teams for being a cancer. So........where's the similarities to Favre ??????????????????????????
