Espn:Bengals attempt to retain Zimmer

TE#80

All the top defenses are 3-4.

We'd be taking a step backwards if we moved to a 3-4.

I wouldn't be completely against it, but we'd need to retool our DL and LB's in order to be successful at it. Plus, Haynesworth doesn't want to play in a 3-4, one of the reasons why he came here.

Zimmer's Defense is looking like Blache is the DC.STick with JG!

No way, clean house, that includes Gray as well. The DBs were horrible this season and last time I checked he was the DB coach, he didn't do his job well and should be let go like everyone else.

Why is his defense getting gashed so badly by the jets though? I'm just a bit concerned.. I just want a D-coordinator that has an aggressive style (like Gregg williams and Jim Johnson), no read and react crap that Blanche had us watch

Does zimmer run an aggressive D? I haven't seen any bengal games this season except this one.

It may have been somebody on here saying he was too small to play NT. I can't quite recall but I'll try and come up with something for you.

Haynesworth at 350+ isn't too small to play NT, it's the way he plays. He's one who likes to blow up the pocket and make his way up field and get after the QB. A 3-4 NT most of the time is responsible for taking up space and holding his line, not rushing the QB too often and making it easier for the LBs to come through the line. That just doesn't fit the way Haynesworth plays or his MO.

I asked because I googled "Albert Haynesworth and 3-4 defense". Nothing came up with any comments from him on playing a 3-4.

This is the best I could come up with right now. Not really a shunning of the 3-4 defense, but as I remember, the Titans ran a 4-3 when Haynesworth was with them.

On how he’d like to be used in the defense:

“If you look at my game, I’m a player that goes straight forward. I’m a disruptive player, I take on the double-team, I free up other guys, and that’s what I want to play like. I want to be able to attack my guy, make plays, and everybody to make plays off me. So that’s what I want to do. I want to do the same thing I did in Tennessee, but now I’m surrounded by a star-studded cast in my defense here. So I’m just excited, cause it’s gonna be fun and I think we’re gonna win a lot of games. I’m not putting pressure on us, but that’s what I think.”

Get your man Snyder/Allen/Shanahan. Zimmer for defensive coordinator. Get it done.

Has anybody watched the Bungles the past 2 weeks, including tonight?

Zimmer has schemed against the Jets for two straight weeks and he still can not stop them. I might add they have a rookie QB.

Why is everyone so in love with this guy?

Gashed is right, but we want him and are willing to pay 2 million+, dumb move if it happens.

Have you heard of any of the guys that are playing tonight... before you started watching the game?

That's why we want him.

I couldn't name one.

Bengals shouldn't even be in the playoffs. They have a team stacked with lousy talent, outside of Palmer and even he has been bitten by the "bad" bug.

Yes we do.

The Bengals seriously lack any major talent on defense. Zimmer is performing way above his means. If Blache was coaching the Bengals defense this season I'd be surprised if they actually won a game.

You obviously cant evaluate talent. Hall/Joseph are a really good tandem at CB. Rivers/Malauga are talented young guys. Peko is a penatrator at DT and they lost their best pass rusher in Odom :doh:

NEVER heard of "lousy talent" Please explain. Palmer may be the weak link on the decline. They fell off when they lost Henry to injury, they dont have a TE, think they are down to their 4th string. They beat the Ravens TWICE and the Steelers TWICE and they dont deserve to be in playoffs  This board is lacking talent tonight.

Ugh I hope not.

SCREW THE 3-4.

Yeah, I said it.

I like a real man's defense.

What does that even mean? real man's defense? As someone else said, 3-4 leads to elite defenses in most case.

However we CANNOT run the 3-4. And haynesworth has been quoted saying he does not prefer the 3-4. People who are saying he'd be a good NT are wrong. He is not a gap eater, if anything he'd be a DE in a 3-4 and do we wanna pay 100mill for a 3-4 DE? (the least dominant position in a 3-4 defense)

Also switching to 3-4 means, we pretty much have to change our entire front 7. yea, im sure our line can last another year as it is.

If our line didn't need so much of an upgrade id be all up for the idea of starting to draft for 3-4 however. But we do need a ****load of upgrading to

I doubt the new regime is going to ask Haynesworth what defense to run. Not that I think they are looking to alienate him, but I don't think Haynesworth's desires are going to drive the decision. If we do run a 3-4, I seriously doubt that Haynesworth will be the NT. Think NE & their 3-4, Richard Seymour never played NT. Seymour used his elite size and speed to be the disruptor while Ted Washington and later Vince Wilfork manned the NT role. Haynesworth could be very dominant as a 3-4 DE. Under a switch to the 3-4, we would have to go out into the market and find a NT. I think Vince Wilfork will be a free agent.

Yea, just because some haven't heard their name doesn't mean crap. Ill go further and say Hall/Joseph is THE best 1-2 tandem at CB. (not saying their the best cbs but the best combo) Rivers and Malauga are amazing LBs (who have chemistry playing w/ ea other from college days) Peko is monster of tackle, and their safeties aren't bad either

Lousy talent was tongue in cheek, notice I used "stacked" with it.

Meanwhile, let's take a look at the Bengals record the last few years:

2008 4-11

2007 7-9

2006 8-8

Every team plays with injuries. Ravens have been dealing with the same problems. That division in general hasn't been good this year.
