JMac
What are the chances that we can get Chris to rethink his retirement now that Shanny is on board. I have hopes that with the new coach and new atmosphere he would change his mind about playing again. I have never really felt his retirement was official. We obviously need to draft or sign his replacement but it would also be nice to have Chris back and playing with us if he can infact play at 100% and not be limited. I would be shocked if Shanny has not already contacted him. Thoughts?

frommd
I thought Vinny said it was just a matter of him getting used to the pain.

BALLz
The coaching situation has nothing to do with whether he does or doesn't retire
sideshow24
I don't see any reason for him to un-retire. He's given the team so much and it is time for him to think of his health and nonfootball future. Sure will miss him over there tho.
addicted
If his health is that jacked up why hasn't he retired yet then? I didn't think it was quite as bad as you guys are saying. I thought he was taking a wait and see approach
scottishskinsfan
Chris has been great for us but there comes a time where he has to think of his long term health. I would hate him to go down injured again.
airborneskins
Its tricky when you are talking about a neck injury. I am not sure that I would want to come back if there was a chance that the next one could be it. Who knows though. I am sure that he still has the competitive drive in him. Oldskool
He needs to realize that his health is more important than his desire to play football again.
HOF44
I guess it would depend on the chance of permanent injury. If the docs tell him he is risking paralysis he would be crazy to attempt to play again.
Dirty#30
Damn dude, the man is facing possible life changing circumstances if he continues to play with his condition. You want him to gamble it all away to play a game?!

Capt'n Obvious
As much as I would like to have Chris come back and be able to play, his health and future are way more important and it is very risky for him to go out and suit up for us again. Art
Samuels is a play away from never walking. he's done. It wouldn't even have to be a big hit. Just the right angle hit.
Santana_89
His health and future is in question, its best for him to walk away as much as we need him. This. CS needs to make sure that he'll be able to enjoy the rest of his life after football ends. It would be wonderful to have him back and win the Superbowl and have him retire the way he deserves. I'd much rather see him walk away relatively intact and enjoy life.

I thought he was taking a wait and see approach Playing Football isn't worth having something more serious happening when he's 40. It's a hard struggle, once you get over an initial injury, to come to grips with and define the fact that you may not be so lucky a second time. He has a congenital neck condition and another injury may be one from which there is no recovery. It's not an easy thing to consider.
corrupt3d
I dont want him to play anymore. I'll take his health for years over him coming back for a year and me praying before every snap he's on the field that he'll be okay. He's earned his respect, not only with us but in the league. Do I wish we could have gotten him a ring? Absolutely, but is it worth him coming back for and possibly being hurt for good? No.
Larry Brown #43
I thought Vinny said it was just a matter of him getting used to the pain. Actually he said he's fine, and that it's all in his head. Samuels just needs a shrink, that's all.

HigSkin
Since we put him on IR, at what point does he have to officially retire? I know when this first broke, he talked about retirement but retracted it. I believe it was due to the salary cap hit at the time. Anybody know?
