Doc" Oh no. You can say it. They didn't get the job done that's why you all were 4-12."

Did JC take the bait?

Doc also mentioned all the bruises he had seen on Jason as a result of getting hit so many times. Then he ended the interview rather abruptly but I think it was because he ran out of time.

Jason answered that question about the 4th round pick exactly like you would want, and expect, him to. He first mentioned how competition at every position makes the team better, thus accepting the fact that competition is necessary at his spot and he's not above that, but then he also acknowledged that it would mean that QB would be paid well and eventually would have to start. It's the right way of looking at it, and simply the reality of it. It's understandable if he stayed knowing that or asked to be released/traded.

LOL WTF - was hard to tell but sounded like he may have flubbed that sentence. (Campbell that is)
That was my impression. He had a couple of thoughts that crashed together,(happens to me all the time). He did use both discipline and disciplinary correctly shortly thereafter so I'm pretty sure that's what it was.

Thank goodness.

John Thompson setting the record straight regarding CP.

I think they replayed the part of the interview in question, and after hearing it again I think I was wrong, but it was easy to mince on open radio when you are only half way listening to begin with :/

Sorry CP I was wrong.

He said as much by referring to what you pay a guy at the #4 pick and how you don't want them on the bench for too long. However, he also said there will always be competition at the position. I personally didn't feel that was the case last year.

There really wasn't anyone on the roster who was good enough to challenge Campbell last year. Hell, the hope was that Colt would be good enough to displace Collins and that wasn't even close.

Thats cool.

I'm sorry if I come off like CP is blameless in everything. I know he's not. But in this case, people did jump on this a little too fast.

I like what Jason said when asked about the quarterbacks MS has coached and the offensive schemes he has ran. Jason said MS does a lot more to get the quarterback on the edge, runs more bootlegs and play action passes. This is the type of offense Jason is more comfortable with and not the WCO.

Exactly. It was a what if type of question and fielded it nicely. I don't think he is resigned to the thought of the team drafting a Q.B. though. He said he is going to discuss this with the staff in the near future.

Basically JC gets the chance he got this year (with improvements like real NFL level coaching, an organizational structure, more support, ...) regardless if they pick a QB or not. If he plays at a high level then he can continue to play in the NFL either with us or somewhere else.

CP picked the wrong day to stick his foot in his mouth. I'd say that comment was at least in part in response to the CP/JC spat.

Possibly. It was the second thing he said as soon as asked about JC. The first thing he said was the same as at the presser. "I like the way he carries himself". Then he said, "He's a class act."

When asked about A.J. Smith saying the Chargers needed to upgrade at QB:

“I viewed that as if I’m going to upgrade it myself, and that’s going to be the upgrade at quarterback,” Brees said on the day he was made the starter."

When asked about competing with Phillip Rivers:

"I don't care if I had signed a long-term deal, I'd still be competing against myself every year. I don't care who's there going against me. The way I see it, it's like they're not even there."

- Drew Brees 2005

That is what you want your QB to say.
