Rotoworld: Shanahan expected to retain Campbell

If they are up front and honest with him about not being the starter full time, JC is going to ask for a trade. He mentioned on one of the talk shows he didn't want to be a stop gap option. He believes he is a started in this league. I hope he goes somewhere and does well. It would be interesting to see what everyone says then when he is playing for a team that gets it.

I can't celebrate the future completely until Campbell is shown the door. I can't believe there are still people on this board that support him in any way. The guy is not a leader and he cannot read a defense, offensive line or not. Enough of this already.

No one around the league will want him, either. He has no trade value.

Kelly Johnson reported last night that Shanny and some of his former coaches and personnel guy have looked at every tape of every nfl game played this year.

They have seen jason.

I thought it was only game tape of the steelers and Pats?

If that's the case I can't wait to read posts from certain posters on this forum trying to tell everyone they know more about football than Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen.

They will say the "meddling" Snyder dictated that Campbell be kept...either that, or that this just proves how bad a coaching hire Shanahan was lol ...

Makes sense to me. Best thing to do is to play it both ways. Keep the guy you got and see if you can fix the problems around him and at the same time get a new guy who'll need some grooming and can become the man if he doesn't pan out. Green Bay and Philadelphia sort of did this by drafting a no. 1 qb before they were quite ready to dismiss either McNabb or Farve (not saying that Jason is equivalent to those two. Just that the theory is similar)

Even if we draft a highly touted QB, all JC has to do to ensure himself a starting position is play well. That's it.

Of course there's other variables involved in his performance, most notably the terrible pass protection and asinine play calling system, but he delt surprisingly well with it all last year and we know those items will be eliminated, or improved (after all, the O-line simply cannot get worse).

If he stays around, he comes in here next year as the #1 guy. If he plays well, he remains the #1 guy, at least for the season. Next offseason, the franchise would have a decision to make ala the Brees/Rivers or Kitna/Palmer situation, and Campbell could move to another team.

WAY to soon to call this, the coaching staff hasn't even looked at tape yet. I call bull

except, Shanahan HAS looked at tape of him...he said he has studied tape in his time off...if this has been in the works for months...don't you think he has paid REALLY close attention to the Redskins?

Does anyone actually think that Campbell will be on board if the Skins draft a QB at #4? He will demand a trade and will not be on the same page as the organization. Remember last off-season, when the Skins flirted with Sanchez? So, this bit of news really proves nothing. The Skins aren't going to come out and say that they don't want a guy who will be an RFA and command a draft pick.
