Las Vegas Trip

I am planning a Las Vegas trip in the Summer for my 21st Birthday and I was curious to know if anyone had any suggestions on where to stay thats good in terms of price and location, mainly close to the strip so I wouldn't need a car too much. Also, where are the best places to go and places I should avoid? Thanks in advance.

New York, New York is well priced and in walking distance or tram distance of MGM, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, Aria (Very nice), Excalibur and some others. Stay away from the North End of the strip where Circus Circus, Riviera, and Stratosphere are. Its a dump up there, not unless you like playing 1$ black jack with toothless hillbillies.

Play video poker/blackjack at the bar. Put in $20 Dollars and the bartender will comp all your drinks as long as you tip him and slowly play video poker. Some places vary, don't be too embarassed to ask the bartender how much you need to deposit in order to get free drinks, The bartender works for tips and doesn't give a damn what you play most of the time.

As always, if you plan to gamble be it slots or table games, always get a player card.

The MGM CARD is good since it includes Bellagio, Treasure Island, Mirage, NY NY, LUXOR and some others. Good luck and hydrate yourself, its hot as hell in July! and very dry!

Bally's is in a great location and fairly reasonable.

There are 2 ABC stores in the mile mall. If you are going to go to clubs but don't want to gamble to drink and dont want to pay ten bucks per at the club, pick up some bottles there and pregame. Beer is something like 12 bucks for a six pack at most places on the strip (so for that you may as well drink booze. There is a McDonalds just past the flamingo that is pretty much normal prices for breakfast.

Don't sleep on the Hooters hotel and casino. Cheap, clean and if you check the calendar they do the Hooters International Bikini contest in Vegas every summer and a lot of the girls hang out at the Hooters HC pool. I went there when it first opened and it was me, three friends and 100 Hooters Bikini girls. It did not suck.

It is important to note that the level of fun you have in vegas is directly related to the depth of your budget. Cash is king in Vegas and can get you anything you want. If you are going with some friends and have some money to spend I would suggest getting a host. We used this service.

Ok - So vegas is whatever you want it to be. Any place on the strip is fine, but anyplace off the strip is a cheap cab ride away. So it really doesn't matter. What you need to do is decide what trip you want ahead of time, because vegas has it all.

I will tell you I don't really know what to tell a 21 year old to do. Don't even know how much money you have to spend -But here is my email I always send to my friends when they ask (I may be a little addicted to vegas). It does skip the "Where to get drunk" because truthfully - You can do that anywhere at anytime. And there will be hot girls at every location.

Nice hotels (With Nice pools)

I just got back from Vegas! I went for New Year's.

I stayed at the MGM. I liked it, but my favorite is Caesar's. Great location, awesome ambiance, great shopping, perfect. I've also stayed at Paris and Stratosphere. Paris is okay, and Stratosphere is far from the regular strip, but I actually liked staying there. Not as crowded and a little more low-key without being Fremont street (Old Vegas).

If you play video poker at the bar, you'll probably need to play at least 75 cents per bet. I don't think I've ever had anyone come up to me while I've been playing slots. I get the most attention from waitresses when I play blackjack at a table.

Have fun!! I LOOOOVE vegas!

oh and PS.....dude. You HAVE to go to 9 Fine Irishmen at New York New York. HAVE TO. And you HAVE TO order their beer and cheese dip.

I swear to God this may be the best thing I've ever eaten. We loved it so much we went there twice on our Vegas trip. It's half price during Happy Hour (6 bucks) and just amazing. The Shepherd's pie with white cheddar cheese melted on top is to die for.

Seriously.....go there. Eat that. You may not want to eat anything else. The fried sausages there are amazing, too.

edit: oh, and ask for Kelly. She's a GREAT waitress. I think her husband is one of the cooks.

If you're going with the guys don't miss Sapphire's (gigantic strip club, if you order a limo for a group it's free and they waive the cover charge). Their drinks absolutely suck and are overpriced... and you won't give a damn about it. :) Take at least 100 bucks. Go clubbing at the Wynn, Tryst (inside Wynn) and XS (inside Wynn's sister building Encore) are great clubs. The giant indoor waterfall in Tryst is awesome to see. Fly out late Sunday so you can go to the Rehab party at the Hard Rock.

If you want a cheap room I usually have luck finding cheap deals at the Luxor. Stay on the strip, the prices are low enough not to need anything off of it.

Drink water every chance you get.

The Roller Coaster, at the Strat, is no longer there. It was removed in 2005. They do have a couple of newer rides, put up in 2006/2007.

The X-Scream, which is what I think you meant, is the ride that drops you over the edge. Kind of like a car on a see saw type ride.

The also have Insanity, which is a swing ride, that extends you 60' over the side and swings you around, along with several other people.

Other than the rides and observation deck, no real reason to go to the Strat. Restaurants are decent, but, not really more than that.

The pool at the Hard Rock is pretty good, especially on the weekends. On Sunday, they have Rehab, which they film for a reality show. They just opened 2 new hotel towers and a casino expansion. They also have a new nite club, Vanity. Plus the Hard Rock is one of the better venues in town to see a concert, if any are there during your stay.

Other than that, not much more I can add, that hasn't already been said, as I avoid the Strip and casinos as much as I can, except for work.

My rule is, Never go to Vegas without at least a grand that you can burn.

But look at a map regarding Vegas and the hotels, it will give you an idea of how close or far things are that you may want to do.

The train used to be free but they charge for it now. I think it is only 5 bucks but per person, it might be cheaper to take a cab.

Going to Vegas in April and staying at the Jockey Club for a week, its right next door to the Bellagio...rooms have a view of the Bellagio fountains..some are suites with a full kitchen, all utensils provided..figure we will go grocery shopping when we arrive to save a little money here and there.

Not a casino hotel..so it shouldnt be over crowded, and is right next to the strip...looking forward to blowing my $ mainly at the Bellagio LOL

I've read it has been totally redone as well very recently.

What is rufilin ?

Do you mean Rohypnol ?

BTW- Clearly you don't know much about drugs or Vegas. Help the guy out instead of trying to be cute.

I believe he was attempting some humor via using some material from the movie Hangover. Could be wrong, but that's what I got from it.

I might go in April too. I got free flight in Oct. but I will foot the bill for this one. The place looks nice. Congrats.

Bellagio was great for dinner, but beat me like a drum at the tables. :chair:

Eh...fair enough. My apologies for being a spoilsport.

I saw it in the theaters but have yet to open the DVD that was a present. It was damn funny, but I just don't quote stuff like that very often.

Just,(and grudgingly I might add),watched the movie for the first time the other day. The part referenced was one of the funnier scenes in the movie,(which I enjoyed). As for Vegas,it's been awhile since I gambled there, but I discovered that the dealers at several of the bigger casinos are actually trained, financial assassins.
