RATE MARTY'S DEPARTURE

DIESEL TROLL

Recommended Posts

I agree, DIESEL TROLL. You know the ol' saying about "burning the bridge behind you". If he had bad mouthed the SKINS then other teams would have turned a blind eye to him. But he has always been a class act. Grade "A".

[ January 18, 2002: Message edited by: skinsfan44 ]

He has 7.5 million reasons to have class. I think ultimately Snyder thought his offense was boring. The fact that they are thinking of hiring his brother to remain as DC says allot to what he has done defensively.

Think about over the last ten years, when was the last time you liked both offensive and defensive coordinators. I can think of one year and that was Rohdes and Turner. I think if we would have stayed away from the injury bug that team could have done some damage

I think the fact Marty had two weeks to consider his fate and anticipate what was going to happen, left him in the mood to simply exit with grace and move on when the time came.

If you notice he was far less emotional in the final press conference than he was after the final game of the season when he all but said it wasn't likely he was going to be back.

And yes, you are correct that no one these days outside of Jeff George, Terry Glenn and some other airheads burns their bridges.

It's a business and everyone knows each other in management, so spouting off while it may make a player or coach feel better at the moment is not something in their own long-term best interest in terms of finding another job.

Marty did the smart thing it only serves to make HIM LOOK GOOD. Football owners know by now Danny is an a$$hole and Marty is smart enough to know that too, he also knows he would like to coach again so now he has shown all the owners that he will not trash anyone who gives him a raw deal even though they definitley deserve it. Finally, the big money made this an easier pill for him to swallow also

let's face it, though, whatever else may be said about the money or getting another opportunity, Marty at 58 is winding down his career without a championship to hang his hat on.

while there have been very good coaches like Chuck Knox, Marv Levy and Bud Grant that didn't win Super Bowls either, for a guy who is a history buff like Marty not getting to at least one SB and perhaps winning it must be there in the back of his mind.
