Gruden is In Love With Tim Tebow

Dan T.

Recommended Posts

Listening to Jon Gruden on MNF he is, if anything, exuberant and generous with his praise of players. Still, he tops himself in a February interview in the Orlando Sentinel, in which he becomes nearly orgasmic in his praise of Tim Tebow.

With many NFL draft experts speculating that Tebow will drop down the draft board, it opens up some interesting speculation - on top of the speculation that Gruden might be coming here - about what the Redskins might do if he's still on the board when they are on the clock and Gruden is in the draft war room. Call it speculation squared.

--

Q: The spread is being run in high schools and colleges, is it possible it could be a base offense in the NFL one day?

Gruden: "No question. The hard part is, you have to isolate the option. That's why Tim Tebow is so interesting to me. He's like Brandon Jacobs playing quarterback. He's 250 pounds. He's the strongest human being who's ever played the position. Ever. He will kick the living [expletive] out of a defensive lineman. He'll fight anybody. He is rare. Tebow is the kind of guy who could revolutionize the game. He's the 'wildcat' who can throw. Most of the teams that have the wildcat back there, it's Ronnie Brown, it's Jerious Norwood, it's whoever you want to say it is. This guy here is 250 pounds of concrete cyanide, man. And he can throw. He throws well enough at any level to play quarterback."

Q: Most people are dismissing Tebow as a quarterback in the NFL.

Gruden: "He can play quarterback in the NFL. When he was a high school senior, they played Armwood in the state championship game. I have tape. He has an 80-yard touchdown run that put them in the lead. When it flipped around, and Armwood had the ball, what position do you think Tebow was playing? He was playing nose guard — and he disrupted about 10 plays. This guy is totally different. He's got Rich Gannon, Drew Brees, that kind of makeup as a team guy. What he said after the Ole Miss game, I said, 'That's my favorite football player I've ever seen in my whole life.' I said, 'I want Florida to win every game that kid plays from now on.'"

My brother and I were just talking about this. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if we drafted Tebow if Gruden for sure comes on as our HC.

One big thing I do like about Tebow, the more I learn about him, is his leadership ability. That is something we are definitely lacking at the QB position here in Washington.

Not according to everyone on the team lately - whether it be on the radio and various blogs or whatever.

Hell, Riggins had a whole Youtube video about Campbell being a leader just a few weeks ago.

I guess this isn't the thread to debate it though.

Tim Tebow can't possibly lose more than Jason Candle has here. So bring him on.

:hysterical: This actually made me LOL. Just couldn't resist the shot at Campbell eh?

I just think we have bigger problems than QB right now.. I'd really like to see that OL get addressed in the first round for once.

Edit: with the team in the WCO for 2 season already, and it seems to be working.. Though the next two games should give better clearity on this.. I just don't think it's beneficial to go whack everything yet.

Wow, he's so excited about him I got a little excited, then I remembered that I really don't want Tim Tebow as our QB. Of course, I also thought Heath Shuler was going to be good, so maybe I'm not the guy who should be counted on for QB scouting, I haven't even watched Florida that much, but he does remind me a little too much of Eric Crouch (former Nebraska QB), except faster, bigger, and a better passer.

I dunno. Campbell's teammates seem to disagree.

I just want an offensive line, though.

Seen the blogs, watched the video. JC seems to have the support of a lot of the offense, you're right. My opinion is that Tebow is a better overall team leader, play maker, and game manager. Just my opinion though.

I'm fine with resigning JC, I just think if Gruden comes in, he's going to want his own QB...

The team has a basic understanding of the WCO.

I don't know that it would make much of a difference if we switched offenses again, everyone and their grandma keeps saying our team isn't built for the WCO anyway, so maybe it would work out. Not that I'm begging for it, but who knows.
