gorebd82
From Mort's chat yesterday regarding Chucky: Bill (Columbus)Hey mort love your commercial with adam. What do you think of clevelands attempt to hire Holmgren? Do you think this is a good move? I for one think holmgren would bring in Maraucchi or gruden to coach this team, your thoughts..... Chris Mortensen (11:48 AM) Holmgren would bring some credibility. Gruden is not going anywhere. He can't contractually, otherwise I would have agreed with you. I doubt it on Mariucci. I think Leslie Frazier is possible but let me throw out a surprise name to you - Marty Mornhinweg. Marty was successful OC in SF, has done great as the real play-caller in Philly. How much can we hold Lions against him in light of their dismal performance as a franchise? And how long do we hold 20 seconds of a coin flip and "I'll take the wind" against him? Just questions. Thirtyfive2seven
I heard on the radio this morning that Chucky has an out of his contract. It was reported by Charley Casserly on the Junkies
Ernie5
First off, there's no way Shanahan comes here and not be GM, so was that really ever in play? Certainly, Gruden CAN leave the broadcast booth (wouldn't there be a provision in his contract if he got a HC offer?), but who says he wants to? My sense is that Allen takes an honest look at Zorn. MWCREDSKINS
It has to be Gruden. I can't see Cowher coming here and it seems like Shanahan is not going to be interested in Allen. I don't know who else? Allen has pretty much been linked to Gruden his whole time as the Raiders and Bucs GM so it makes a lot of sense and Redskins football if nothing else would be great. Wonder who Gruden's coaches would be

Brianbien83
It will be interesting to see what happens. Can't say that the last few years of Gruden/Allen were successful in Tampa, but maybe with deeper pockets from ownership, they'll be able to get back to their winning ways. TD_washingtonredskins
I find it bizarre that there would be a contract that is binding to that extent. I could see him being locked in to a certain network, but to have language that prohibits him from leaving broadcasting to pursue coaching seems strange. Fred Jones
I agree, I can't see how Chucky would not put an out clause in his contract that allows him to coach again.
HigSkin
Kornheiser (980) just asked Doc if he felt absolutely sure that Gruden would be the next HC. Doc said yes. Take it for what it's worth.
nittydachamp
Well from last monday night game they were promoting the Giants and Redskins games for next monday, Jaws kinda slipped up and said " Giants and Redskins gonna be a NFC East battle for sure, and then he said right Jon" Gruden kinda laugh. as to say, gonna back to D.C. mite be a meeting taking place this week. goldbean
Gruden's contract with ESPN cannot prevent him from coaching for the Washington Redskins (even during the term of the contract). However, the specifics of the contract will determine whether Gruden breaches that contract if he leaves ESPN to coach the Skins. If he has a clause allowing him to terminate the contract if a coaching opportunity arises, he could leave to coach the Skins with no negative impact to him. But if there is no such clause (or no similar provision in the contract), ESPN might be able to sue Gruden for breach of contract. Even if ESPN prevailed in court, though, the most they could do is get $$ from Gruden--they couldn't prevent him from coaching the Skins. The situation would be different if Gruden were leaving ESPN to work for a competitor like Fox or NBC Sports. Depending on the contract--for example, if it has a non-compete clause--ESPN might be able to prevent him from working for the competitor. Bottom line in this situation: Gruden can leave ESPN to coach the Skins whenever he wants. At worst, he will owe them some $$ if ESPN decides to sue (or the parties choose to settle). Wonder who Gruden's coaches would be I think Bruce Allen will review ALL Redskin talent over the next three weeks, including coaches and players. Zorn may have a chance to stay. Gruden looks to be happy with his booth role with Jaws. However, I know the guy has coaching in his blood.... being in the trenches in his blood.... And he's still a young guy. My money says he'll be back on the sideline in 2-3 years if not in Washington... somewhere else.

darrelgreenie
According to Chris Russell of 106.7, Allen will NOT work with Shanahan Why? How is Allen not working for Shanahan a certainity? If you had the choice between Shanahan for HC or Allen as GM who would you pick? Who is Chris Russell?
chaught76
I think you have to consider the following as canidates: - Jim Zorn - John Gruden - Tony Dungy (http://www.footballnewsnow.com/2009/nfl-team-contacts-tony-dungy-about-coaching-return/) - Todd Bowles - Gary Kubiak (assuming Houston fires him at the end of the season) - Jerry Gray - Mike Nolan Personally, I'd like to see us go after Mike Nolan.
