CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry suffered serious injuries after falling out of the back of a pickup truck during a domestic dispute with his fiance, police said Wednesday.

Henry was found in the road in Charlotte "apparently suffering life-threatening injuries," according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Henry was transported to Carolinas Medical Center, the local trauma unit, but spokesman Scott White said he was not listed in hospital records and had no other information.

Police say Henry jumped into the bed of the pickup truck as his unidentified fiance was driving away from a home just before noon.

"The domestic situation continued between the operator and Mr. Henry," the police said in a statement. "At some point while she was driving, Mr. Henry came out of the back of the vehicle."

Henry broke his left forearm during a win over Baltimore on Nov. 8, had surgery and was placed on season-ending injured reserve. Charlotte is home to his fiance's parents, the Bengals said.

Team spokesman Jack Brennan said he had little information other than Henry was badly hurt.

"We are aware he was in an accident and that his injuries are very serious," Brennan said. "We are obviously staying in touch with the situation and are ready to offer whatever assistance we can."

Henry is in the final year of his contract with the Bengals, who let him go after his fifth arrest following the 2007 season. Owner Mike Brown then brought him back a few months later, signing him to a two-year deal, and Henry had stayed out of trouble since his return.

A deep threat, he was fourth among Bengals receivers this season with 12 catches for 236 yards and two touchdowns at the time of his injury.

Thinking of Chris Henry hits close to home. I actually got tossed out the back of a truck two different times.

The first time I was in the back of an F150 and it was t-boned by a ford tempo and it flipped the truck. I got catapaulted out about 30 yards, had to be medivac'd but was okay (pinched nerves, torn meniscus, pinched nerves, serious road rash and a bad concussion).

The second time was the next time I rode in the back about two years later and it was only because we were down a long dirt road, it was late, didn't feel like walking back the long and bumpy road and I obviously didn't think it was dangerous. The driver was driving recklessly and he hit a bump, out I go but I'm hanging on to the back of a tailgate by my leg, then he hit another bump and out I went. But was okay.

Needless to say I never sat foot in the back of a truck again.

Not to laugh at your expense and am totally glad you are ok from both occasions but you mentioning pinched nerves twice then saying you had a bad concussion made me laugh my ass off. If intended, kudos...if not, what month is it? LOL just joking.

Hope he pulls through. They are saying he is "fighting for his life."

I envision him and his fiance having a fight, her storming out and getting in the truck, and Chris jumping in the back trying to talk to her. She starts swerving and **** and out he goes. Of course that is all just speculation. Man...

This sounds eerily like the Tiger Woods dispute and incident.....only much, much worse, obviously.

and you'd of thought that his "fiance" could of put whatever they were arguing about aside when she realized he had fallen out of the truck

So she just drove away, even after realizing he fell out and got hurt ?

That must be the reason for the homicide investigation. Otherwise, I'm not sure how you can blame the fiance when he jumped in the truck himself, and fell out, himself, unless she hit the gas or brakes really hard to knock him out. Just speculation here, tho. Obviously we have very little facts.
