Redskins unleash a youth movement

By John Pappas

The Washington Redskins finally broke out of their slump Sunday, beating the Oakland Raiders 34-13 in Oakland. It was the first win in four tries, and the first victory on the road in nine games.

The offense was very effective. They had two drives of 80 yards, and one for 77, all resulting in points. In all they had six drives for scores; four touchdowns and two field goals. The offense posted 295 total net yards, with 195 yards passing and 100 yards rushing.

Defensively, they logged eight sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, and just 227 total net yards allowed. As a unit, they executed 13 tackles for loss, and limited Oakland to just 26-percent on third down conversions.

It was the most complete game the Redskins have played this year. And the biggest win of the year. In fact, the biggest margin of victory since early 2007. But most remarkable was how the team did it missing so many opening day starters.
