This one stings

By John Pappas

For the third week in a row, the Washington Redskins lost a close game after squandering a fourth quarter lead. In Dallas, it was a late touchdown drive that sealed the deal. A David Akers’ field goal with 3:47 remaining was the difference in Philadelphia. And against New Orleans, a turnover in overtime led to a field goal, and a terrific letdown.

Of the three, this one may have stung the most. New Orleans came in 11-0, number one in the league in total yards, and scoring. The Saints were favored by nine and a half, and few gave Washington a chance to even be in the game.

But Washington jumped out early on New Orleans, and led almost the entire game. They posted season highs in total yards (455), and points (30). And late in the game they led by 10 points with under five minutes remaining. It was starting to look like the statement game of the year for Washington.

But that’s when it began to come apart.
