MurrayH81
http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2009/08/electronic-locks-defeated/ http://www.security.org Waiting today at the Raidiologist's office, my eye was captured by the June 2009 Ed. of WIRED. Within was an article entitled "The KeyMaster", written about Marc Weber Tobias. After reading the article and reviewing the cover pages of ...the linked website, it seems clear that most of the general public does not know about this person or his body of work. Unfortunately, in today's world, ignorance of this material may cost you everything you own or value. I say this not to be an alarmist, but because the information is public domain, so you can be sure that "the bad guys" have it. In short, your physical safety and security can only be secured by you directly, as locks and other security devices (including those used at the White House) mean absolutely nothing due to easy and rapid circumvention techniques with incredibly cheap and easily obtained tools. Skin'Em84
Locks only stop people who aren't serious. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a company put $200 into their locks, only to have the hinges on the outside of the door.
mjah
Security through obscurity. If they can't find it, they can't get it. Just make sure you don't die.
Stew
I have a pack of dogs all over 75 lbs that guard my house while Im not there. When Im there I have a Sig Saur .40 caliber with night sights, and a Kimber 1911 .45 with a trigger laser sight. Both pieces costed me well over a thousand dollars each and because of that fact alone (that and my love weaponry) I learned to shoot well with them from 20 and fifty feet away. I keep them in a drawer with the trigger lock on them... only because my fiancee prefers it like that. I keep the hunting rifle and shotgun under the bed, loaded and unlocked though and she says nothing about it. I just bought a house and Im fencing it in with six foot privacy fencing for the dogs as well. We keep all our documents in a sunk in wall safe or in the safe deposit box at Pentagon Federal Credit Union. If someone wanted to break in when both my fiancee and myself were gone, risk their lives as they enter my house by my fighting off and killing a pack of large dogs, locate a hidden safe, and crack it... then they must want our jewelry, passports, personal docs, collectables, ect pretty bad...and if im home, they are dead.... real simple scenario, pistols and rifles upstairs and a crossbow downstairs. The only two things that I do not have is an ADT or comperable alarm system, and that lifelock stuff for ID theft. I do that and Ill be masterlock.
