21cents
Believe it or not but i believe our major concern right now is the RT position. We can talk about how bad campbell is and how portis lost his step. But it all points their problems back to Heyer. In his first 3 games(Couldnt get stat for 4th game yet), heyer has posted 12 qb pressures and 2 sacks. He is in pace for 64 qb presures for the season. Which would make him the worst nfl olinemen in a long time. Now you are probably asking yourself 12 QB pressures how bad is that? Lets put it this way Rabach had 12 QB pressures all of last season. Dockery had 10 QB pressures all of last season. Samuels had 20 last season (injured and had the worst season of his career). Now if heyer performs the way he has(most likey will considering we have played lions, rams, tampa horrible teams. The redskins have a big weak link and dont see them going anywhere. Also if you consider in the fact heyer is horrible and i mean horrible at run blocking he might be the worst starter in nfl.
SMOSS89
Well, they already knew this but didn't do anything about it.
paloffs
I'm not the biggest fan of Heyer being our starting RT. However, I think your stat's misleading. Pressure is objective. Also, Campbell drops REALLY far back AND he doesn't step into the pocket (granted, Rabach's getting pushed into Campbell's face this year). I think there are a lot of problems... For once, I don't consider our tackles the greatest problem.
Birdlives
Heyer has been credited with giving up 3 sacks per Stats Inc. How about next time you start 1 thread about the offensive line instead of two. This + the "should we have signed Davis" thread could have been combined. Pressures are the result of olinemen getting dominated and forcing the qb to move or get sacked. Considering everyone else on the oline has 5 or less qb pressures leads me to believe heyer is just awful.
Ashburn Dave
He was an undrafted player, what should we expect? For some reason this FO does not like drafting big ugly's.

skinfan2k
I saw this at UMD. We should have gotten Jared Gaither from UMD who also went to my high school in the supplement draft. Mel Kiper had him as the #1 OT in the 2008 draft I believe but he failed out of maryland
rubynj
Gaither left the field on a strecher...he's a good player but what would we have done in that instance. Heyer is doing an ok job,and I think we should run to the right side more. We had a few decent gains to that side.

Had you combined this and the Davis topic into one thread about our offensive lines issues (which would've been thread #5,499,486 on this particular issue) perhaps you would've received more discretion from other members. Unfortunatly, you didn't bother reading the stickied thread about board clutter and excessive thread starting and instead decided to start two threads about largely the same issue within 24 hours of each other. tiger187126
moss isn't a #1 receiver DT/MK are not #2 receivers Rabach is not a center Orakpo is not a linebacker Landry is not a safety i mean we could start talking about everyone on the team. Snagletooth
Heyer is the main reason that we just can't go to Collins. He will get killed. Many pass plays break down almost instantly thanks to Heyer.
HailGreen28
I like Heyer, and sometimes you put a OL in there, they are horrible at first, then develop. OTOH, we need a GM who knows how to build an offensive line like this way.

I don't understand when people just come out and make comments like this. What exactly is it about Heyer that you like? What has Heyer done as a player/RT that has impressed you? Could you elaborate a little bit more please. Thanks.

Heyer has been terrible by every objective measurement, and as assessed by the team's scouts. If you want evidence, look no further than Vinnie and Zorn's comment that the first priority in the 2009 offseason was upgrading at RT.
ZoEd
The only thing to like about Heyer is he didn't cost us a lot of money. Unfortunately you get what you pay for. We really should have pursued a veteran lineman for the Rt side or at least kept Jansen. I can't help but think an old, hobbled Jansen has got to be better than Heyer. Not that much as a player, though I'm hoping he has some upside.Mainly the "like" comes from him being an UDFA and stories like this, and this (coulda sworn I saw the full article here, but either this board's search function sucks or I do)
TheLongshot
I haven't watched him in detail in the last game, but he seems to be getting better, at least in the run game. Apparently Detroit was one of his best games and for the first time we ran right more than left in the Tampa game. I think the title of the thread is a little harsh. He might not prove to be a starting NFL tackle, but he has proven that he can fill in adequately as a backup at the very least.
Shilsu
At least we didn't blow money on Ray Willis to replace Heyer. That guy sucks, yet some people were enamored by him.
Leonard Washington
Heyer doesn't do much well but he could be worse. He just looks physically over matched. He's not quick or strong enough. To compensate in pass protection he turbos 5yds into the backfield (usually completes his set standing next to JC) before the DE/LB even hints at a move. The rusher has a free 3-4 yds of sprint before he decides how he's going to blow by him. I don't know BMWs status game to game but can't we put him or a run blocking center in on obvious run situations?
holmester
I was starting to think that he could be our backup swing tackle, but now I dont even trust him as a backup.
