Special K
At first I was going to say its a ****ing joke that they gave it to him for doing absolutely nothing. But then I remembered that Arafat, Jimmy Carter and Al Gore are also recipients. So Obama is in good company for receiving the award and having done jack **** to deserve it. Hahaha, that's exactly what I told my mom this morning. So funny! What an ****ing joke this whole thing is. It is entertaining watching people defend this though. Baculus
You amuse me with every post. He had your number and you had NOTHING! It was priceless. Actually he didn't have my number because, twice over, he accused me of saying stuff that I never actually said. And then you applauded him for it. So, yeah -- I guess you got me. It would be like me saying that you said, "I enjoy beating up teen-age boys." See? It is that easy.
nonniey
You would think that noteworthy and braggable would be used in the same breath, but hey, maybe we are splitting hairs in this regard. Burris shooting himself in the leg in a New York nightclub is noteworthy. I take it if you did that you'd brag about it?
cjcdaman
We are. This is way way way too early. Except for Baculus. Yet you are SOOO on the President's JOCK that you have blinders on. :applause:
Predicto
so in reality he had only 12 days on the job before he was nominated? Yeah, but that part is not surprising. As I understand it, everyone of any significance in the world gets a nomination from someone, every year. Some people nominate every member of Congress, every member of the Euro parliament, etc. Then the committee looks at whatever they look at. Obama doesn't deserve the prize, but I don't think it was just for his first 12 days in office.

I think taht he was nominated on a whim, and assessed on a few months worth of intentions. (Maybe up until August or September? )
Koala
He doesnt deserve it, BUT I dunno why so many people here are getting their panties in a knot. This is really a prize for the American voting populace. Look, this is just the world's way of saying, "Thank you for getting rid of the neocons and their cowboy policies." A graceful, "You're welcome" would be in order instead of whining about the over-popularity of Obama. But some of y'all were born to whine. Baculus
Baculus, you are the definition of an "Internet tough guy" You sling insults and call people that disagree(d) with you stupid. What? When I did ever say that "people that disagree with [me] stupid"? Show me. The last two times I have asked for someone to do this, they had nothing to say. And here you are, doing it again, So, how come you like beating up teenage boys? Yet you are SOOO on the President's JOCK that you have blinders on. Please demonstrate this fact. I voted for the man, with an understanding that there was NO way that he was going to fulfill all of the "Land of Milk and honey" campaign promises. Unfortunately, I was right and then some. Then why are you so pissy? It just blows my mind that he would be give a previously prestigious award for doing absolutely nothing to deserve it, other than some well written speeches. The nuclear reduction agreement is one of the primary reasons given by the awards committee for this award. At least according to their announcement. If you have a problem with that, then take it up with them. I am only merely say, "In the context of past winners, his award does not stick out." I am not calling anyone stupid, in spite of your false assertions. And what I DON'T like are the right-wingers who accused the President of treason for his international efforts, and now they are attacking him for winning the prize based on these efforts. Again, here is a list of the past peace-prize winners: http://nobelprizes.com/nobel/peace/peace.html Maybe you should actually read my posts, eh? That would be a good start. PokerPacker
what neo-con policies are gone in reality? seriously. I was actually just about to bring that up. He platformed about change, but yet there's been little to no change, and yet he gets the Nobel Peace Prize for continuing in George Bush's footsteps. SnyderShrugged
When you get the kid out of the pool it takes time to filter out the pee he left behind. true. Though, if he had actually gotten rid of the neo-con policies, I think he would have been more deserving of the award.

No, but winning a Nobel peace prize is a braggable AND noteworthy event, though I doubt if few winners ever "brag" about it. Your premise from the get-go was false. NavyDave
11 days in office and its worthy of the Nobel Peace Price? Heck making Vinny Executive of the Year for only signing Phat Albert and drafting Orakpo before they played a down is more credible.
twa
What does it tell you, when someone gets a Nobel for talking? It tells me that things are so SO bad internationally, that the smallest, most inoquous thing like -- treating your peers with respect -- garners a Nobel prize. I think that if there is any blame to laid here, it is squarely at the feet of the previous administration. It is because of their actions, that this guy got an award for being nice. Don't hate the player, hate the game. Curious which peers you speak of? Chavez? Castro? Zevalya? Qaddafi? Assad? Immanutjob? Cause it seemed we had about the same relations with the others
Baculus
Sorry, Bac. I've come to realize that there IS no arguing with you. I simply like to be entertained by your posts. Of course there is arguing with me -- I debate people all the time. What I don't like are people putting words in my mouth as their attempts to argue with me. So present me an ACTUAL argument and you will surely get a response. But if you give me a bunch of rubbish with no basis -- outright lying about what I said -- and I will call you out for it. If you don't like what I say, then present me a good argument.

He platformed about change, but yet there's been little to no change, and yet he gets the Nobel Peace Prize for continuing in George Bush's footsteps. I don't think that is entirely true. Yes, in some areas where Obama has retained Bush's policies, but the attempts to reengage the Middle East, to work on a new arms reduction policy with Russia as well to "reset" their our relations with that country, and to set a generally different tone with the world is a divergence from the Bush policies. Also, even though Camp X-Ray is still in existence, it is slowly being drawn-down and will eventually be closed.
