Trade deadline Oct. 20 @4pm EDT - possible trades we could make? (merged)

The trade deadline (Oct. 20 at 4pm EDT) is fast approaching and if the Redskins lose to carolina, I really think the FO needs to think of getting some value for players that may not be around much longer. We need draft picks - lots of them.

Here is a list that I have compiled of current players who could be traded before the deadline - and after the season is over. Some could bring good value and others would bring a 7th rounder at best (or the proverbial ham sammich).

Feel free to add or subtract from my list or praise it - or blow it to pieces! :D

In alphabetical order, some possible trades include...

Ladell Betts

Andre Carter

Fred Davis

London Fletcher

Cornelius Griffin

Malcolm Kelly

LaRon Landry

Rocky McIntosh

Santana Moss

Clinton Portis

Casey Rabach

Antwaan Randle-El

Chris Samuels

Mike Sellers

Fred Smoot

Devin Thomas

Randy Thomas

No way should the above players be traded. London is the leader and heart of this team.

And the rest are young players, who havnt hit their prime yet, that we have invested high draft picks in. They shouldnt be traded yet imo.

Puff, puff, pass.

Those two are having a helluva season right now.

Mike Sellers - We just re-did his contract.

get Merriman.

God please no. If he's not injured he'll be in some kind of off-field thing, or continuing to be overrated. He's one of the players I'd least like on the team.

I can see Kelly, Thomas, Davis, Doughty and Horton on the block. Kelly and Thomas may not get much value but the other three might. Davis is completely redundant, or at least not really being used much. And we only need one of the Doughty/Horton pair.

I don't expect a big name in return though. A kick-return specialist would be nice. Or a very large back used strictly for goal-lines.

salaries do not just vanish when you make the trade. This is not baseball, the Redskins cannot trade any big salaried players

We have to consider cap implications, or else we're just going to dig ourselves deeper into this hole, even if these moves "seem" good at the time.

Oh instant gratification. When will we ever learn?

I think we could get a good return on a Landry trade. We have Horton, Reed, Moore and we can play Smoot back there. Let Barnes and Tryon rotate in Smoots spot.

Fred Taylor may have to have surgury on his ankle... Betts maybe for a low round draft pick?

Im not gonna lie... Id listen to offers for Cooley as well. I love the guy, have his jersey, but I know that he would rake us in something big. He is probably the most desirable player on our team to other teams. Im not saying Id trade him, but if an offer big enough was put on the table, id have to consider it.

We could probably get something for Sellers in a trade as well. Pro Bowl FB. Another low round draft pick more then likely... better then nothing, but in all honesty im looking for a player trade and an O-lineman specifically.

Yep. Check his age. Get value now or let him play out his remaining days here with no compensation? Granted, it's not an easy choice.

We'd get much more value by keeping him until his days are done. The chances of him playing at a high level for a few more years are greater than the chances of scoring a top-notch player of equal value by gambling him for a 2nd-3rd round draft pick.

Age or not, his statistics since he has been in the league are freakish and the model of consistancy. Look at his numbers so far this season. The way he looks and plays, he has three to four seasons of solid football left, and I want them all to be here. The compensation we get is the product he puts on the table. He isnt tradable because we need him.

Nice to see someone else realizes that. Though I wouldn't be surprised if two years from now it's not the case
