Not signing K. Washington to contract: Epic Fail for Management

Could have easily put M. Mitchell on practice squad, and signed K. Washington. He would have been instant production for the Skins instead of that they are waiting on the 2nd rounders to produce. This year to date he has 16 catches for almost 200 yards. These aren't Pro Bowl numbers, but would have gave J. Campbell another veteran reliable receiver to go in the early going. But instead management is wasting a roster spot on a rookie receiver that will probably not even play (barring injury) any this season. Next season, who knows what will happen to this roster and team, by then it will be too late.

The team already has a lot invested in the WR corps in the form of huge contracts and high draft choices. Another body probably wouldn't have helped, so for the purposes of cheap depth Mitchell is the better option. Kelley Washington hasn't shown that much over his career and is already 30. On top of that, he's got a pretty special player throwing him the ball now, so his performance might not have translated the same way here.

Sounds like you are second guessing the team.

In retrospect... yes, we could have signed him, but we did not. :whoknows:

You guys, not everything is an epic fail just because it happens to this team.

Kelley Washington looks better than our rookies because he probably plays more and plays in a different offense. If we had kept Washington, and Mitchell played whereever Washington is, you'd be saying the opposite.

Until this offense opens up, all of our players will look like scrubs.

My point is that Kelley Washington proved himself better in camp. But we weren't willing to pay him as a starter. That was a mistake. We should have taken the gamble with Marko Mitchell on waivers. The best man should play. If you are a border line team, then you do not have the luxury to have guys taking up roster spots. Marko Mitchell is not playing because he is still most likely still learning how to be a NFL receiver. Bottom Line: Management could have helped the offense out by signing Kelley Washington.

Btw: Spelling their first names is unnecessary.

I like KW former Vol... but he turned down the same offer from Skins as the Ravens, because he felt (correctly) he had a better chance of playing with the Raven's depleted wr depth

I'll bet he's thankful for making that choice. I doubt he could have guessed how well Flacco would be playing, too. He's a little late in his career to begin a jump start, but better late than never.

I disagree. kelley washington would of been just another vet signing with the skins to get fat and paid. you need to build young players into winners and NOT run it like a fantasy roster. we already have a ton of WRs. moss, randel el, and cooley are very capable of catching balls and making plays, and we have to start utlizing the younger guys. kelley washington would of been a band-aid at best.

These kind of posts just crack me up.

The entire post is founded on the premise that Campbell is a great QB he just needs WR's. What a joke! As if KW is anything remotly special, he is on what his 3rd team? How 2 other teams could let such a talent escape is beyond me? Kelly couldn't produce in New England which makes stars out of avg WR's, KW isn't even better than M. Kelly, trade, or sign for a real QB and our recievers will get a whole lot better.

16 catches for 200 yds, how do we get by without that? Those numbers were compiled with a real QB, he probably would have 1 catch for 6 yds if he were a skin.

Kelly Washington was the missing link to our season and we let him slip through our fingers, what a joke!
