Portis sidesteps comment on Lewis

Running back Clinton Portis is known for his outspoken opinions. Vice president Vinny Cerrato even jokingly called Portis his assistant GM.

But, Portis declined comment on the impact of Sherman Lewis’ arrival as an “offensive consultant.”

“It don’t matter what I think. Next question,” Portis said. “I got fired [as assistant GM]. They released me from that duty. Right now I’m just a part-time running back.”

Portis said his sore ankles are better this week, though not 100 percent. Still, he plans to practice during the week. Facing Carolina’s defense ranked 23rd overall seems more enticing to others than Portis.

“I don’t think you’ll ever look at a Carolina defense and say, ‘Oh man, we’re going to have a field day.’ They have guys capable of making plays. On film, you wouldn’t think they’re giving up 180 yards [rushing] a game,” he said.

Are you guys kidding me? Are you really taking this seriously? There are TWO quotes from CP. You have NO CLUE what context this was said in. You have NO CLUE what else was said as part of this interview.

As far as I am concerned, this article SUCKS.

I thought the same thing. I think he's emotionally preparing for his dismissal from the team this off-season.

Except for the part where eating his contract for 2010 would be a chore, uncapped year or not. He is still effective enough to help a team win games. Probably needs a speed guy to go with him, though. But hey, that's why Vinny gets paid the big bucks. To play raquetball, I mean...err.... add speedy backs to the roster!

Could the team even absorb the cap hit from his signing bonus in the last "re-do" of his contract?

No cap next season. It's the end of the FA era and personally, I'm glad.

Lets get back to the great days of the dynasty, where a successful franchise can keep it's players and stay great.
