KevinthePRF
Yes, worse than Dallas... Reports: Limbaugh, Checketts interested in RamsAssociated Press ST. LOUIS (AP) - Published and broadcast reports say radio personality Rush Limbaugh and St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts are joining together in a bid to purchase the St. Louis Rams. KMOX Radio and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch report that the Checketts group has made a bid on the Rams and would keep the team in St. Louis. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello declined comment to The Associated Press on Tuesday, and the Rams said in a statement that a "strategic review" continues. In a statement to KMOX, Limbaugh confirms the bid but would not name additional partners. Georgia Frontiere moved the Rams from Los Angeles to St. Louis in 1995. She died in January 2008 and her two children are now majority owners. Link: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/10177184#
Mickalino
What would be funny, is if the Eagles then let go of McNabb, in favor of Vick, then the Rams General Manager picks up McNabb, and see what Limbaugh says of the guy he talked about when he was on MNF. Destino
I'm not a Limbaugh fan but the guy can buy any team he wants. He's definitely a smart guy so he might make a good owner. If he decides to use the team to make political statements... yes he'll be a disaster.

PCS
Oboy. This presents a bit of a quandary. Hmmm. It is NFL related for sure. However,it has Mr. Limbaugh involved and that presents its own issues. Could simply say "stay on topic" and hope for the best,(yeah right),and this thread could end up sliding down the page. Or not. Or I could just anticipate the most possible direction this thread will take,(considering posts so far,no challenge there),and ship it over to The Tailgate now and let the inmates there take a shot at it. Of course, this guarantees that the thread will go in to all kinds of directions. Hmmmmmm.
KevinthePRF
Des- What tells you he's so smart? I think he's very smart. He has a large number of Americans completely snowed into thinking he is an intellegent voice for the right. I'm not cracking on conservatives or republicans. It's not about his political views, it's about reeling in the lowest common denominator of political thinking and making millions off of it. Smart businessman, dumb politician. It only took a few months for his true colors to show on his first NFL stint as an "analyst". I can't wait for the first time he gives his honest opinion of one of his players not doing very well. @DCGoldPants
No way the NFL Owners allow this to happen. They don't want the attention he'd bring to the league everytime he says something on his show that gets others upset. Lock it down now. Ain't happening. RedskinsInFebruary
I think Limbaugh's dreaming--he's an extremely polarizing figure, and I think a majority of any group would regard him on the negative side, due to what he's spent a career promoting. What NFL team needs to lose half (or more) of its fan base right off the bat? At any rate--poor Rams, and poor Rams fans--they've been the victim of rogue owner syndrome for way too long. I think the Rams' fanbase is already somewhat shallow because of the move--supporting a team taken from another city's fans, when they should have let L.A. keep its name/unis/colors (a la Cleveland), can really only run so deep. Limbaugh would only make that weakness much worse.

Destino
Des- What tells you he's so smart? His success and his ability to make reasonable sounding arguments for anything no matter how absurd if it is politically beneficial are the most obvious examples of his intelligence. What he does isn't easy... though with the success of Glenn Beck I'm starting to wonder about that.

GhostofSparta
Well he's certainly got the money. But I always thought he was a Steelers' fan, so I woulda thought he'd try to buy some of the shares that the Rooneys were selling. :whoknows: A popular franchise like the Steelers would be crazy to let such a polarizing figure join their ownership group. There is no upside to letting Limbaugh onto your ownership team. Especially if you aren't in a conservative stronghold. It's only a matter of time before he says something crazy (and I'm talking weeks not years) and it will be reported as "STEELER OWNER INSULTS GROUPX" sending your fan base into a fit of rage. Veretax
Limbaugh is a racist pig and drug addict who loves to spread fear and hateHe is the Real terrorist. Hey this also get's him closer to some real good pain killers.. Easy, he is not racist, that's just the left's spin. Like him, or disagree with him you can, but talk like that just isn't healthy in our democracy. I think he's very smart. He has a large number of Americans completely snowed into thinking he is an intellegent voice for the right. I'm not cracking on conservatives or republicans. He LOVES football.... However, I have to wonder if he would be a Minority 'owner'. Just because he's part of the ownership doesn't mean he'll be the like the SKins - SNyder, Cowboys - Jones, or Raiders - Davis. You guys need to chill out and wait and see if they even win the bid. NFL Teams could be hot commodities to buy. No way the NFL Owners allow this to happen. They don't want the attention he'd bring to the league everytime he says something on his show that gets others upset. Lock it down now. Ain't happening. I disagree, LImbaugh brings ratings. Love him or hate him, any time people find out he's on any show, that show's ratings get a spike. The NFL should realize that publicity is publicity. As long as they can turn a mint on it hey why not? Besides, I think some people might think the Rams would be fitting for limbaugh, I mean some people think arguing with him would be like butting heads with a Ram??? ha ha get it? Seriously, let's calm down and wait and see. The economy is down right now, and the league may not get many good choices so who knows.

The NFL should realize that publicity is publicity. As long as they can turn a mint on it hey why not? . The NFL is already king of the Mtn. Rush Limbaugh isn't going to prevent a blackout in that market. The NFL has the best ratings, and the best product. There is no upside to the Owners even taking him seriously. Doesn't mean they don't let some folks own teams who shouldn't (cough cough). But we've seen them turn down bids before. Milstein for example. The owners can make up any excuse why. They could say "yeah, he's a cash cow now, but who knows? Radio isn't stable....blah blah blah" On the topic of the economy. There are only 32 franchises. Even the worst NFL teams will find a buyer. Maybe they want to relocate. But, whatever. Miami needed loot, they turned it into Celebrity Funhouse down there. St. Louis will get sold.
