SolidSnake84
Hey guys, This is a scary time for me and my family, as my wife works for the school system and it has now been confirmed that Frederick County, VA, has had 2 cases of the swine flu in school age children (K-12) I'm not going into full panic mode but maybe this will encourage people to go out and get the vaccine... Schools here should really lockdown at this point....no need for a full blown epidimic......

Zguy28
Allegedly a young girl at my church got H1N1 two weeks ago. Nobody else got it yet. Although it has a 1 week gestation period I think.
KDawg
There is a high population of h1n1 around here in the school district I work in. Many cases have been documented... There's no fear here. Everyone is recovering just fine so far.

It sounds a little bit like you already are panicking. It's just the flu... sure, it's a nasty strain but so long as you know what symptoms to be wary of it isn't likely to be dangerous. Sticksboi05
Swine flu is not a deadly disease. Unless you have infants or someone with prior medical issues you shouldn't worry. It's not a nasty strain yet. We'll have to see if it mutates.

Considering this is a more potent strand of the flu I would be very concerned.

Cinnamon, garlic, and ginger, eat a lot of it when you have the flu. They are all strong antivirals.
Enter Apotheosis
[/url]Every year in the United States, on average: 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu;more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu-related complications; andabout 36,000 people die from flu-related causes. Considering this is a more potent strand of the flu I would be very concerned. So lets do some math to put things in perspective... with a population of just over 300 million that means that every year between 15 and 61 million Americans get the flu, 200,000 end up in the hospital (0.3 to 1.3% of all cases), and 36,000 people die (0.06 to 0.24% of all cases). Those numbers aren't exactly as staggering as they sound, particularly considering that deaths are skewed dramatically towards at-risk groups (the very young, the very old, pregnant women, and those with pre-existing conditions that may compromise the immune response). This is particularly true with H1N1: Flu experts say the virus appears to be having the worst impact on people with other health problems, including diabetes and asthma. More than 70% of hospitalizations in the U.S. have been people with such conditions, according to the CDC. Pregnant women and people who are overweight also appear to be more vulnerable. GoSkins561
My entire family was sick for about 10 days and a local school has 43% of it's students out. Our symptoms included (very)sore throat, some stomach illness (diahreah), headaches, chills, very tired and some fever. I think we all had h1n1 because some of our symptoms were some listed on the various websites. WE didn't go to the doctor because they are not testing for h1n1 unless there are severe cases, we weathered the storm and everyone is back to normal. With that said, there is no way of knowing if we actually had the flu or caught the swine flu, based on what people are saying in our area, the symptoms I mentioned were all pretty common, so who knows. Burgold was another poster that was sick for about 10 days, I am not sure if he thought he had it or not.

zoony
Why is this virus seemingly highly proportionate in schools? Because of the close quarters?-Grant Easy to tell who the parents are on ES. Kids are walking petri dishes. That's why Snot, poop, pee, puke, slober, boogers, etc. all in a few hours work. And that's when they're healthy. I probably wash my hands 30 or 40 times a day when I'm at home

We don't live in dorms. I'm in my last semester at a community college. But still, being in close quarters at a place where hundreds of individuals are coming through daily, the same thing is in play.

Exactly, the person who sits at your desk in the previous class has swine flu, he sneezes, you come in, sit down, stick your hands on your desk, your hands touch your mouth, congrats, you now have swine flu. Special K
SS - You'll likely be fine. Just take proper precautions like regular hand washing, covering your mouth/nose when you sneeze, etc. Also, remain cognizant of the symptoms of flu and call your physician if you have questions. and the swine flu travels easily, which is the reason why the W.H.O called it a "pandemic". Actually, that isn't really why it was elevated to pandemic status. There are very specific parameters by which the WHO has to follow in order to officially declare a pandemic. If i do that my hands would crack. Lotion My hands would be massacred if I didn't use it after every hand washing. I recommend "Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Skin Therapy Lotion." It has no scent and it's the best lotion I've found to help my skin.

Obviously I don't want you to diagnose what my family had, but based on the symptoms I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, does it sound like my family could have had the swine flu?
