Oldfan
When Jim Zorn says he sees signs of progress, his observation is supported by the average passing yardage stat so far this season. Zorn 2009 -- 264 ...through three weeks Zorn 2008 -- 206 Gibbs 2007 -- 226 Gibbs 2006 -- 206 Gibbs 2005 -- 209 Gibbs 2004 -- 180 Stats from Pro Football Reference It's mostly between the 20s, and it's not showing up on the scoreboard yet, but our moribund passing game is showing signs of life. Brandon Lloyd Christmas
too early to judge this at all. plus plenty of that yardage has been coming in the 4th quarter when weve been down by two possessions.
Runs with Scissors
Progress? or is it we have zero running game and are always losing and need to pass on just about every down?

Skins24
We've been down and have had to try to come from behind, which usually means more passing....

Sekhmet728
To be fair, we've had the most passing yards when the run game was healthy, a la the first half of 2008. After that our passing game suffered along with our run game. Now our passing is rebounding, but the run game is still stuck in the mud.
mnb123
We played the Lions and Rams and have scored one TD outside of fourth quarter prevent crap. Calm down.
Pedro
Our OL hasn't been as bad as it is now in any of the years quoted. We can't run or pass block as a unit for 3 plays in a row let alone a series. Add in stupid false start/line up penalties and those passing yards are actually quite remarkable. Not surprising we aren't 'executing' in the red zone. If our D could get the ball back maybe we'd be able to risk taking shots when we get close? I would suggest we need to take the risk because we know our D will leave us in poor position. Rock getting to the 25 after a kick off is about as good as it gets these days for our O.... TerpSkin
To those of you dismissing the statistic... forget the statistics. In truth, you only have to be at least moderately intelligent and have watched the games to see that the passing game has clearly improved. There are other major weaknesses -- some new (like the weak running game and seemingly poorer defense) and some old (can't score in the redzone) -- which are disturbing. But you don't have to be ridiculous and claim everything about this team sucks just because we are losing. We can be more intelligent than that even if we are frustrated. Lombardi's_kid_brother
By the way, I think even the most ardent JC critic has admitted that he looks better this year. And he is certainly not the main reason we are 1-2. But he's not good yet. And we can't score.
monkeezgob
It's far too simplistic to simply look at increased totals as a benchmark for success in the passing game, You could also argue that you don't need to pass as much if you're holding on to a lead. Campbell put up decent numbers on Sunday, but how many of those came in the 4th qtr when we were desperately trying to play catch up?
ttr77
Nothing against the OP....but man I am sick of moral victories. As far as I'm concerned, this team is the EXACT same team that ended last year on a 2-6 tear.

This is why I don't think it's all on Campbell. He hasn't played horribly so far. He hasn't been great, but he's not the reason we're losing. He had a good game against the Lions, but so far everyone has. It's not his fault that the defense couldn't make a stop on 3rd down. Just like the Rams game, not his fault Thomas and Sellers both dropped TD passes.

As far as I'm concerned, this team is the EXACT same team that ended last year on a 2-6 tear. I agree. JC is better this year, but he's still an average QB. He will never make quick, good reads. He was drafted as a dropback, deep throw passer...and he will never be a WCO QB. At best, JC tops out as a Kerry Collins career type QB. With that said, this team's problems are much bigger than JC. OL, Running game, coaching, team chemistry, and defense are all far worse than JC.

Now considering he had a transformation in 2005, what was the passing statistic for that year alone?! The average for 2005 was 209 for the year, but I once charted Brunell's stats for that year and Brunell's average dropped to about 150 yards per game over the second half of the season after defenses began doubling Santana which kept them from stacking eight against Portis. illone
Ok, so the Skins passing game is progressing. All the while the running game is taking a step back and the defense can't stop anyone on 3rd down. Meanwhile, there will be a new coach and new QB in DC in 2010, so not sure exactly what your point is.... Are you trying to suggest Skins fans should just keep hoping and praying that eventually the team will find the endzone and win some games? If so, I'm not buying. Good luck selling that junk:hysterical: Oldfan, your threads are funny.
