So much for the Byron Leftwich era in Tampa. It's already over.

The Buccaneers will start start second-year pro Josh Johnson on Sunday at Washington. Rookie Josh Freeman will move up to No. 2 on the depth chart and Leftwich will be the third quarterback.

Coach Raheem Morris announced the move Monday, a day after the Bucs fell to 0-3 while gaining just 86 yards total offense in a 24-0 loss to the New York Giants. Leftwich completed 7 of 16 passes for 22 yards and one interception

Bucs fans are generally happy with the change.

Against New York, Leftwich went 7-16 for 22 yards including one interception and zero first downs in the first half. Over half of the total yards given up by the Giants for the entire game was in the last drive by JJ, in spite of heavy pressure and multiple blitz packages.

The move is largely perceived as owner-driven, as Coach Morris had previously declared JJ to be his "career backup" and his OC called 11 passing plays and 0 running plays in the one drive JJ did run, against a Giants D that wanted to preserve a shutout.

The feeling in Bucs country is that JJ couldn't do any worse than leftover, and the first round pick's not ready yet.

Some fans are circling this game and the home game against the Panthers as the only two games left on the schedule where the Bucs have a chance to win, and then only because JJ is starting.

So don't expect a lot of smack from us Bucs fans this week, we know we stink. Apparently so do you but I haven't listened to the Field Pass for the Skins-Lions game yet so I can't say for sure.

Anyway that's the take from the Bucs board in general.

Personally, I'm predicting a Bucs win, score 28-13.

1- I have a lot of good friends who are Bucs fans, and initially they had this game as a blowout in favor of the Redskins (back as late as Week 1 anyway), and now they all think this could be one of their lone wins this year. So yeah, what you're saying isn't surprising about the optimism from the Tampa crowd, and it's hard to say they're foolish for thinking that way.

2- If the Bucs, starting Johnson for the first time ever, put up 28 on our D, then Blache really needs to head out the door along with Zorn ASAP.
