luckydevil
You need to be more specific, it depends what you need to do. Sorry, good point. I am just clueless on this. Well my parents just want to use it for home movie purposes. Do you have to buy a program to transfer the images from a disk to a dvd?

Do you have to buy a program to transfer the images from a disk to a dvd? The newer ones you just record and then through your usb port send the video to your pc, then the software that comes with it you can edit the movie and then burn on a dvd. The only thing you will need is a dvd burner and the software for it. The video software should come with the recorder.
TheKurp
The video isn't on a disk per se, but either on a High8 tape or a mini-dv tape (depending on whether you buy a Digital8 or a mini-DV camcorder.) Now if you want to transfer what's on the tape to a DVD, well, you're going to need literally GIGs of space on your computer. You're not going to be able to go directly from the camera to DVD. First you'll have to capture the video on your computer, then burn your DVD.
TheKurp
I'd definitely go with Firewire interface over USB.
