21cents
LaRon Landry was. He was only thrown at 19 times last season. Lets compare him to ed reed. For comparison's Reed was thrown at 32 times and allowed 15 Receptions for 190 Yards and 3 TDs. Landry was thrown at 19 times and allowed 8 Receptions for 148 Yards(mainly due to how deep off he played) and 0 TDs. Team's avoided LaRon more than they avoided Ed Last year. 2008 stats Landry Thrown at-24 Allowed-9 catches Yards allowed- 159 yards TD's allowed- 0 Ints-2 Pass defensed-
Old Bay
My gripes with Landry are that he needs to tackle instead of gunning for the big hit and to keep his emotion in check. We can't afford continual mental lapses leading to a 15 yard penalty. I think he's solid, but with some fine tuning he could become great.

ST is my boy
Sorry I really dont believe that......stats or not. The guy plays 80 yards off the LOS (not his fault). Thats why nobody throws it his way...
ntotoro
If Landry actually was within 50 yards off the LoS, those stats would be different.
Forehead
Let's not forget that Ed Reed also has more interceptions than Landry, and takes them to the house every once in awhile. I'm sorry, but if I had to pick between them right now, I'm taking Reed. The only thing Landry has on him right now is age.
scruffylookin
Are you really trying to make the case that Landry is anywhere remotely on the same level as Ed Reed? Landry is a pretty good player with talent, but certainly not a player that deserved to be taken 6th overall in the entire draft.
ouvan59
Why would you throw at Landry when our CBs give a 15 yard cushion? Landry may be the best cover safety but we'll never know because other teams can just throws slants and hooks for a first down every time they need to. TGI Jef
the problem Laron has does not seem to be the deep ball thrown "at" him. instead, it is his run support and especially the support he gives on short completions. short slants, short crossing routes, etc. - he has been brutal at coming up to make tackles. in terms of the deep ball, he has always been pretty solid. and while that is still a good strength to have on your team (great, even), id rather him play closer to the line and show some improvement in making solid tackles and not preventing guys from getting more YAC than they already are. dsciambi
If Landry actually was within 50 yards off the LoS, those stats would be different. This. When you have your CB's 15 yards off the LoS, and your FS like 30-40 yards off...well, what reason do you have to throw it at him? May as well pick up the easy first down instead of trying to throw where all the DB's are (deep as hell).
SKOALSKIN
How did you compile these stats? Did you break down game film on each player?

bikie
I'd take ed reed over LL and his brother packaged up... the stats aren't really that telling though like others have pointed out, the way we play LL so far back and with our corners 10 yards off the ball, why throw deep? for LL to be "thrown at" it would almost have to be a hail mary... reed also is a master at baiting QBs (there's a joke in there somewhere, can't figure it out) and will induce throws towards him for the chance to pick them, which we all know he can do and take to the house.. Dan T.
I'm Laron Landry - good thing my vision's fine. So I can see the play from 30 yards behind the line. Season ticket holders got a better view than me. My momma wonders why I'm not on TV. But I play the safety spot like a badass rover. Knocking out receivers when the play is over. I separated Plax from his lid and do-rag. (Why'd that damn zebra have to throw that flag?) So call me Laron Laundry - that's my take. Cuz that's what the refs throw every hit I make. How am I s'posed to show punks my toughness When every other play they call unnecessary roughness?

I'm a Dirty30 fan too, but c'mon dude the best Cover Safety? Better then Ed Reed? (Ed Reed had 9 Ints) I think the stats are deceiving you my friend. BTW- Where are those stats even from b/c NFL.com has different numbers. Both play center field, but imo the difference is that Ed Reed makes plays. I think Reed reads the offensive formation and route combo and jump routes. Look at it like a short stop in baseball. A good SS with range gets to more balls, an average SS get to fewer balls but likely has a better statistical fielding percentage. Landry is good, he's one of my favorite Redskins, but he ain't Ed Reed... not yet. Ed Reed probably breaks up if not picks off 2 passes that Landry gave up last week. (If you want i'll show you) HTTR! Ed Reed beat us last year
S.T.real,lights,out
Despite that, I'd take Reed over Landry in a heartbeat. Yup! How many picks did LL have last year compared to Ed. And is it just me or does it seem like everytime Ed gets a pick he takes it to the house?
Dan T.
I've mentioned this benchmark for measuring Laron Landry's maturity and effectiveness this year... if he ends up the season with more interceptions than personal foul penalties, I'll consider the season a success for him. I'm keeping track. So far he's oh and one.

mnb123
lol this is like the Campbell vs. Tom Brady thread. Landry vs Ed Reed? Not even close next up: Casey Rabach vs Kevin Mawae
NewCliche21
1) AMAZING rap. Laughed out loud at work. 2) Ed Reed is, arguably, the best safety that I've seen not named Sean Taylor. Landry isn't even close at this point, and the more that I see him, err, DON'T see him, the more that I don't think that he will be.
