REDALERT
Are you Kidding me, it took till after the game to realize this. Stevie Wonder could see this needed to be done like last year. This is the kind of crap that keeps up losing. Hopefully Zorn will tell Blache to do the same d@mn thing. Hunter_R
I'm boggled by this. How long have we been screaming about the corner cushion? How often do some posters tell us that we need to swallow whatever the coaches tell us, seeing as the coaches know way more than we do? To me, seems like we got this one right. skinfan2k
I dont know if anyone you watch NFL playbook on NFL network, but they said the same thing. We dont disrupt anybody's routes and let guys get full extension on blocks in the run game.. No wonder why it is so easy to run outside on us.. Our corners are 10 yds off the ball. We love this bend but dont break d but it doesn't force turnovers.. In fact it makes the defense tired and its out there more often than not longer than it needs to be if the offense goes 3 and out

It seems like Zorn has been letting Blache convince him that this is the way it should be run, against his preference. Now it appears he's finally seen enough and is going to make sure the corners tighten up. We have talent at the corner position. We don't need to run a variation of cover three to play well. Santana_89
I hope this message isn't just limited to the db's. EVERYONE from the coaches on down need to TIGHTEN UP!!
Gibbs Hog Heaven
CB's to Zorn: "Put up some freaking points and stop hanging us out to dry", or words to that effect. Aside from that, I fully concur with the sentiments expressed in the thread already. Many of us have been frustrated to Hell watching this soft zone **** for way too long now. Why has it taken so long for the men that matter to finally wise up? Hail.
terpfan
There is absolutely nothing I hate worse than soft coverage. I really dont see the point of it. Sure, if you play close to the line you may get beat over the top now and then, but if you dont you are just gonna get driven down the field over and over again. If you have any confidence in your DBs playing 7 or 8 yards of the WRs is just stupid.

bluecrab
This whole organization is just slow to react. This is sickening.
Xero21
What I don't understand is why, after last year when we DID use press coverage, we would go back to a 10 yard cushion. If it ain't broke don't fix it. This organization sometimes tries to change what doesn't need to be and risks other areas that could use a change. Thinking Skins
It seems like Zorn has been letting Blache convince him that this is the way it should be run, against his preference. Now it appears he's finally seen enough and is going to make sure the corners tighten up. We have talent at the corner position. We don't need to run a variation of cover three to play well. I hope this is what happened. It seems though that Zorn is too much logic and not enough balls. He needs to just go up to Blache and say "do it my way or you can find a new job" (like Singletary did Martz), but we all know he can't do that because doing so would imply that Zorn has power over his assistants. So instead, Zorn has to explain logically why man coverage is a good idea. Then Blache can just say "no" or "my way works" and just ignore Zorn. I coulda swarn we used it in the beginning of the season (particularly against Dallas 1 and Philly 1), but it seems that in games like the Rams game, we were just in zone. I say the same thing about SanFran and other games.

It was written in a lot of articles during the season that press coverage was being used a lot more in our D and that guys like Smoot had to step up and be able to play that way. mr2you
My question to Zorn is.....What were you seeing last year that changed this year? Last year the CB's played 10 yards back, sometimes so far off you couldn't see them on the TV screen! Seriously, has it just dawned on him we play soft on receivers? I love Blache, but this coaching staff...not so much. Grey hasn't made anything out of his DB's. Hixson can't get squat out of his receivers and we all love Buges, but he's not getting it done either. What's the over/under on Snyder wining and dining Shanahan at the Palm? I will love the Skins to my dying breath, but this has to stop. If there's no fire in the belly from the head coach, how can we expect it from the players? HailfrmDEN
Im watching the game again right now and you guys are right. They were at 2 and 15, corners lined up 3 yards from first down. I can handle bad plays for risk, but games for weakness sucks.

Yeah, this is just ridiculous. It's not just the fans calling them out, I remember a few games in recent seasons where they're using the telestrator on the broadcast to circle how far off our DB's were playing. Most of the time, Landry wasn't even on the screen (30 yard offs the LoS, seriously...that's your scheme?). I'm a bit appalled that it took so long for this to be (potentially) addressed. holmester
Why does everyone seem to be pissed off? We should be celebrating. Im cracking a beer in honor of this as we speak. HailSkins81
I remember the press against Philly last year had McNabb pulling out his hair. They really struggled. Then, we went back to the cushion and I was screaming. The press WORKED!! It worked very well. On occasion, the DB's will get burned, but on occasion is less often than 8 out of 10 plays, like it is now with the 12 yard cushion. Every play seems to make more yardage with the cushion. A 5 yard slant turns into 8-15 yards. A 3 yard run turns to 8 because the DB's are already blocked since they have so far to run to get to the RB. I would like to bury the cursed cushion. RandyHolt
we respected the giants receivers and Eli. Why, I have no idea why. We let the other team control the ball and the game by giving such a huge cushion. Why not play it tight until we get burned deep repeatedly, and then adjust? We adjust when they are about to score, 8 minutes of clock eaten up, the field position game lost, our offense hands on hips. Great point above at how the running game kills us wide, WR's at full speed blocking or catching balls anything before we even get a hand on them. Wonder why our DB's cant make tackles? The WR's RBs and TEs are at full speed, our DB's forced to make a difficult tackle. Running along side someone, its easy to tackle them. We all know Blache controls the defense. Zorn does nothing to run the defense. Have you ever seen Zorn talking to Blache mid game? Blache is better suited to be a head coach, FWIW. Zorn is the noob and they both know it. HailGreen28
Shouldn't Zorn just tell Blanche, and that be it? While Zorn's right, and yeah he is head coach, it does seem odd Zorn critiquing the defense, though he is HC.
Destino
Glad to hear Zorn acting like a headcoach instead of the coach of the offense. Blache needs his ego placed under control.
Skins4SB
About Moss, that is also partly to blame on Zorn's playcalling. He needed to call more routes to free Moss from the press like drag routes, which would have let Santana get free and make a play after the catch.
