TD_washingtonredskins
compared to 2008 the offense made improvements over last year.... if anyone wants to admit or not, we got some sacks and a couple turnoversyes there's room for improvements, but at least we had a shot if we make the onsides kick..... we were out of it early both games last year. playing two years in the medowlands in a row game one was completely unfair advantage for the the Giants Good point. We looked better vs. NY than we did at any time last year. I'm still concerned, but objectively, we have to consider it a step in the right direction. As many have predicted...we've closed the gap with the Giants. At this point, not enough to beat them...but we were more competitive (and physical) than we've played vs. NY since 2007. monkeezgob
Our offense managed to score one meaningless TD when the Giants were backing off and playing prevent. Other than that we looked utterly impotent on offense, no-one should be satisfied with that. WE only managed to move the ball in those final two minutes when the Giants were easing up. We looked no better than last year.
rdskns n 05
To me it looked like our first two drives sliced into the woods. Hell I didn't think we made past the ladies tees.....

Gibbs Hog Heaven
That's not fair. Take away a pretty fortunate fumble/recovery/TD by Osi and a missed easy tackle giving up their first TD and it's a different game as well. Without those two plays (two plays that should never have happened), they score 10 fewer points. It's basically the same argument you're making. Not really. Not that I'm concerned with what the Giants O did, but as regards the spread, they'd still of had a chipshot field goal so we still don't cover. Hail. SkinsLegacy44
That was the first game of the year folks!!!! I agree, we were rusty and at times pathetic. Nevertheless, in the end, we were still in the game. We created turnovers and we forced the Giants to make big plays on 3rd down. It was bittersweet, but we looked a lot better than the opener from last year. So did the Giants. Eli looked as good as I've seen him play. Some of those needles he threaded were amazing. I'm not happy that we lost, but I saw some hope, and I think we can build on it given the direction of our schedule.
SirClintonPortis
You do realize that the Rams' head coach is that same former Giants D-coordinator who ran that D that kicked the O's ass last year?
dav87sc
The spread is based on expectations, we barely (barely) scraped past the lowest expecations to be blown out. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYyyyyyyyyyyyyy I'll give you the benefit of the doubt about not knowing what the "spread" is about. The spread is about the expectations of bookies that are trying to make money on the game by giving gamblers a so-called chance to make money by betting for either team. It Is Not the expectations of the players, organization, or its true fans. The are completely different. Our expectations are to field a competitive team that has a chance to win against any team in the league. Not just hang close or do well in mop-up time. This did not meet the expectations of any in the category of those who truly matter.
dackerman
The best team in the conference?????They're not even the best team in the division. They're behind Boys and Eagles. This was not a par, IMHO. It was a bogey. I can't see Skins finishing out of last place in division. Are you high?

WE only managed to move the ball in those final two minutes when the Giants were easing up. We looked no better than last year. If we par'd the hole, its because we had a the drive bounce down the cart path and bounce off a tree onto the fairway. Kelly and Moss, who were supposed to shred the Giants second string corners, had 2 catches for 12 yards. Zorn obviously has no faith in Campbell, and he's not exactly the first coach to feel this way.
FuriousD
Sorry to use a golf analogy, but that was the toughest game on our schedule and we hung in there. We outplayed our expectations by beating the spread (6.5). There is no other d-line in the NFL like the one we faced today. Our offense did not get a chance to settle down. Let's give credit where it's due....The Giants Defense is sick. Look for 5+ TD's next week. Getting gouged on the road by a far superior division rival does seem to be par for the course when it comes to the Washington Redskins, I will give you that but otherwise your analogy fails. A par is neither a win or a lose and we clearly lost today. Apart from that, we will still have Zorn calling plays and Campbell throwing the ball next week so nothing will come easy. :helmet:
hail2skins
Same old crap for the second straight year. Last season it was "we only lost by 9" to the defending champs on the night they got their rings. This season its "we only lost by 6" to the defending division champions......who I thought we were going to be able to handle since they lost Plax and our D had gotten SO much better. I expected a loss last year but also a more competitive effort than last season's opener. Folks, we didn't get that. I can understand losing with improvement. But we got flat out dominated again. What kinds of teams do you think you're going to see in the playoffs?
RIPSean
Leading up to this game, many of us (including me) forgot just how good the Giants are and we got our hopes up. The Giants are an elite team. They won the Super Bowl 2 years ago against the best Super Bowl losers you'll ever see and then, even after losing Osi to injury, they came back last year and were the best team in the league for most of the regular season. NY started 11-1, finished 12-4 in a brutal division, and entered the playoffs as the number ONE seed despite a bad finish. They also beat us convincingly twice. We thought they'd have no receiving options, but they found some. This is a very well run team and they have been doing a good job of finding talent and utilizing it well for a while now. We thought their injury damaged secondary would be an easy target. But what no one wanted to bring up was the return of Osi Umenyiora. I know he didn't play last year, but he is still the best player on that team. I know there were some discouraging aspects to this game. The play calling was not at all improved and you could pretty much tell after that screen to Cooley on a early 3rd and 18. This was followed by other weak, conservative calls, such as the screen to Moss in the red zone and gadget end around plays that shouldn't have been called against such an athletic D. Campbell also looked like more of the same, with a respectable stat line but a failure to step up in big situations, the most obvious being his check down to Betts on the big 3rd and 8. Also, the fake field goal skewed the final score a bit. It was an aggressive call but you won't be seeing it again and it is not at all an indicator of offensive ability. But this loss was not the season ender people are making it out to be. We did not look like a horrible team. It wasn't the performance of a champion but that proves nothing on the road against such a strong team. NY outplays most of their opponents and they've had our number in good times and bad for years, except when Todd Collins went Brady on everyones ass. Basically, don't get too irrational about the game. It was a bummer but getting beaten by the best does not make us Detroit. Things can easily go either way. Lavarleap56
yeah have to agree that the giants are a good team. Watchin the game today and how the giants performed reminded me how the old redskins teams use to play and i was a little jealous have to admit. Unfortunatley there in our division and you have to go thru them to accomplish anything this year and its not gonna happen with the coaches and players the current redskins have. 2009 is a wash so prepare for change again because its coming. Bostic Hog
I disagree with the OP. The Giants are not a great team. They are a good team -- the Redskins made them look great. They are the same team that lost last year in the first round of the playoffs, at home. The only difference is Osi. And by the way, he scored a TD yesterday because Campbell is the same ol' Campbell. Agree with your post here If the Giants were a great team, they would have ran away with this early and been up 28-0 at halftime. They really weren't that great. It was more our incompetence and ineffective QB play and self inflicted wounds that put us down 17-0. The Giants offense didn't step on the field for nearly 45 minutes at one point! (From Eli's fumble, to about 10:00 left in the 3rd quarter) This game was plenty there for the taking. We blew it
Drockvb
The Giants are a good team right now, but calling them great is premature. How do you know what they will be? It is only a day after week 1. Lets see how they play against a team with an elite quarterback that can pick their secondary apart. The Skins are not that team. Mr. Grundle
Not a great team, just a better team. Better players, better coaches, better G.M., and a better owner. That's all.
SkinsFTW
What did the Giants do that makes them great? Campbell gives them 7 points. Our failure to tackle gave them 7 more. Campbell's Int gave them 3 I think. Their DL got little pressure through our OL. We failed to get a TD after a turnover, or even attempt a pass into the endzone. I don't get it. They looked average to me and there's no reason that we couldn't have exploited their 2nd string DB's all game long if we had a competent play caller and QB. We don't have either but wouldn't it have been nice? The Giants aren't that good. The elite team was when the Pats had us down 52-0 in 07. They did lose the SB to the Giants that year in a fluke game after they were exposed for spying but the Giants weren't the better team and aren't even close to that team now. NOLASKINSFAN
OP nailed it... NYG are the best team in the NFC this year and they were unable to be put the Redskins away. They did what great teams do and held the skins off, but that game should have never come down to an onside. Luckly the skins have some easier games to get into a rhythm. You can see JZ wants to do some new stuff, its coming.
